i don't know if this sound has always been there but i noticed it earlier tonight...it seems that every time i start off (when i let the clutch out) i hear a weird knocking sound...it's not loud, kinda quiet actually. and only happens when i start out...anyone know what this could be?

Do you know where the noise is coming from?

I had that. well I think. Do you mean like a clicking knocking noise every time you push in or let out the clutch? if so, check your clutch bracket. Mine was bent and made a clicking noise every time I pushed it or let it out. It got really annoying. I just pulled it apart and bent the bracket back straight and it's all good. no more noise. Hope it's that simple for you. Good luck

I have the same problem....that damn clicking noise coming from under the dash. If I let the clutch out slowly enough I can feel it through the clutch petal. What does the clutch bracket look like...and how do I know which way to bend it. Thanks!

ya, it's like a creaking sound, like when you push open a door after it's been sitting there, at least that is what mine sounded like, and i could even feel it through the pedal... well it went away when i got my clutch replaced. my mech is a huge local tuning hero, so he probably adjusted it, he does that knd of thing whenenver i give him my car. i got a 97 too ;) i got lots of work going on right now so i'm not on here as often as i like so feel free to hit me up on MSN or Yahoo IM [i'm on MSN 95% more than yahoo] with any spyder related stuff ;)

Possibly... throwout bearing.

Well if you were to ignore it would it hurt anything?

can't be the t/o bearing because it's new...but i noticed that i only hear the sound when i start out....if i sit there in neutral and let the clutch out slowly, i don't hear the sound...

I found the picture of the clutch assembly from my Alldata program. Here it is.... (I'm guessing it's #19 :dunno: )

Now all we have to do is get import2nr99 to tell us which piece to bend. Thanks!

it was the number 8 spring that was rubbing up against the number 19 bracket on the front. somehow I managed to take my big ass size 13 1/2 and push it down.just bend the bracket back and make sure it doesn't contact the spring anymore. if that doesn't work, lay down on the floor and push the clutch with your hand and see whats rubbing. you should be able to tell. a little lube never hurt anything either. Good luck
