Well as most of you probably noticed, I've been having killer problems with my new(ish) car. Finally today the mechanic wrote up the estimate and sent the dealership the bill. (he was suprisingly cool about the 16g and also priced it for the rebuilt just in case he came into other problems with the oil leak) His final estimate for the turbo, and all other work needed came to just shy of 1700 dollars. The dealership called him back about 10 minutes later and the OWNER of the dealership agreed to pay 1500 of it. He said he'd do it all but thinks it could probably be done for 15, so thats what he said he'd do. So I ordered the evoIII 16g today along with the install kit and new water lines. So life is once again good. I'm hoping to have the turbo by monday. maybe saturday if I'm lucky.

Now that we have the turbo out of the way, my previous questions still stand. I wasn't able to get anyone on the phone at sbr to talk about the fmic's. so I was wondering if anyone else had any input on the greddy? I'm highly doubting that I will be upgrading any more than this turbo, but it is a possibility. So I was wondering if the greddy will handle it. Also I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a piping kit for a spearco. I'm gonna check out the kenetics as soon as I'm done posting here. Hopefully I find somethin that fits my liking. Sorry to be so persistant with this, just looking for driveablity plus looks. Thanks for everyone's input. I'm sure I'll be back with a bunch of threads when I start installing all these parts.

Thanks bro. Once I get it back I'll put up a cardomain site or somethin for you guys to check out and give me input. I'm hopin I can get all my other mods together and ready so that as soon as I get the car back from teh garage I'll be able to start bolting things on.

personally i would strongly suggest you not to go with greddy! spearco is a good intercooler, its what i use but thats not the only reason i suggest it... its a bar and plate style in which will cool more air out of a smaller intercooler compared to the Greddy tube and fin style which you would need a much larger intercooler to cool the same amount of air! i will look quick to see if i can find the thread that has a lot of info on it about the different types of intercoolers!

ok i found it! here is the site... i did a nice little write up on them that i found in a magazine... very helpful info if you want to know more about intercoolers!

heres the thread!

the bar and plate is more wieght, but efficiency should more than make up for the difference. the greddy is also more expensive. i am also not planning on going bigger than a 16g evo ;)

On a side note: Did you ever figure out what kind of numbers you will be putting out? I'm just curious :)

well.. that settles it. that thread helped sooo much jake. You're the man! thanks! Well I was definitely going for the greddy because I thought they were "the best" and I liked the "bling blang" effect it had. I had been looking into the spearco's, but that whole need for a cutom piping is just really getting to me. I might go with the SBR. If kevin likes it and helped design it, then it's gotta be good stuff haha. who wouldn't trust a guy like that? Not as much bling as I was hoping, but I'm seriously losing my desire for all that! it's sad, cause it used to be my life!oh well, ya live and learn.. then get spearco.. or sbr. Thanks for the help guys! those boys at SBR are gonna love me! I'm makin them rich haha!

and to answer your question ashah, JoeWagon said that an evo 16g makes about 280 on an untuned eclipse with a side mount. so I'm hopin for about 300-320. am I dreaming? I've got everything I should need. Apex 3" all the way back (DP and N1) and 650 cc injectors, a 190lph pump, injen intake, and an apex s-afc2. I'm hoping for about 18-20 psi? is this safe? and with that, what kind of numbers would I be lookin at? thanks for everyone's input. any more suggestions would be great. Jake I think I'll PM you about gettin that pipe bent! I don't know anywhere around here that can do it for me. (that is if I don't go with the SBR fmic) thanks again

Jon

You can of course order mandrel bent piping from jcwhitnet.com and then your 'custom' job doesn't involve needing a bender.

That 280 was what SOMEONE ran with that, but by the numbers.. EVO III is supposed to put down up to 375, right? If you figure that you'll have a pretty nice overall setup, you can probably put yourself nearer to 350 than 280 is my guess.

Joe G on the POS site did 350 on a small 16g. He usues an ebay spearco core with JC whitney bends and silicone couplers from a typical vendor (DSM vendor, sporthoses.com, etc). If you go to the site and get his email adress, I'm sure he can give you a list of the bends and couplers he used. I need to try to get him to do a writeup on that for the site....

Oh yeah, I gave kinetic the final adjustments to the IC pipe lenghths. I never heard back so I dont know if they made the change. I'm not on thier payroll so I didnt push it for too long. But if it was off everyone would be complaining. Should fit nice, mine does. :)

well after some shopping and researching, and taking everyone's opinions and info. I just ordered the SBR fmic. it came to 950 with all the piping and tax and shipping. Which puts me a comfy 250 bucks under the greddy 24 with all piping. and from what jake posted and everyone says. I'll def be better off with the sbr front mount anyway. I just wanna do it right. On the sbr site they said the evo 16g is good to 380 hp with all necessary support mods and good tuning. I've got everything I could possibly need (I think). so I"m hopin for about 350+ since my tuning skills aren't incredible or anything like that. Which will be more than enough to rock my world! especially since I"m switching over from a GS! Thanks everyone for you help and support.

Don't know if I mentioned it, but I saw it in the other thread. The dealership agreed to pay 1500 of the 1700 dollar estimate. so I'm good to go on that. Hopefully his estimate wasn't too low! I'll post up picks and be asking questions like a madman once all this stuff shows up at my door! Thanks again guys.

i think the 16g EVO is good to over 400 no? or is that at the crank and WHP is more like 380?

I'm pretty sure it was 380 whp. but I could very easily be worng. either way... I'm hopin for the best!!

there was someone smart on NABR that said the evo3 could do over 400, but I wouldn't count on it any time soon for the average person.
