The torque control sensor, also know as the TCC Solenoid is installed in the transmission, usually accessible by dropping the trans pan. In most instances it can be changed without the assistance of a machanic if you have some auto knowledge. Some symptoms of failure are: trans won't shift into overdrive, or will not shift out of overdrive thereby locking the trans in high gear, makes for a very jerky slow down in speed and will also cause your vehicle to cut off once you slow enough. Vehicle will crank right back up but as soon as you put the shifter in Drive it will cut right back off because the vehicle is still in high gear (torque converter is locked). It will be like you are driving a straight shift and trying to start off in high gear, which is basically what you are doing. Can work fine for about the first 45 minutes of driving and then start acting up - mine did.
