Upgrade your air intake system with a Performace system, I just bought a K&N FIPK2 system last night and have been using a Drop in K&N filter, The K&N FIPK2 system will cost around $250, I am running a Cat-Back Flowmaster 20 series dual side exit exhaust and noticed better gas mileage after installing it. Hopefully I will have some free time to install my intake this week, I received a bit more performance after Removing my MAF screen as well. I plan on cleaning out my throttle body and linkage while I'm installing the new intake. The drop in K&N improved my throttle response and gas mileage better over the paper filter! they cost around $45 and are well worth it if the FIPK2 system is out of the price range. Hope this helps..

Thanks Jimmy but how much improvement did you get by installing the K&N filter, I will cahnge out the filter I think the K&N FIPK2 will have to wait for now.
Thanks

Dude only 14mpg. Don't punch the gas everywhere you go. I've got a 99 and still avg around 16-18mpg everytime.

I also have a 99 and I get about 16...if I drive like a grandpa, I may get a little better. I think the bigger tires I put on mine hurt it alot.

I would say right now my truck is getting around 16-17 mpg with the drop in.. hopefully tonight I will install my FIPK2 and Ill let you know if I get an improvement. Living a mile from work I dont really worry too much about great gas mileage I bought the Intake for more Power. With the drop in K&N I noticed easier acceleration on the highway and quicker take offs from a dead stop. Usually I drive like a grampa in my area due to living next to a State Police Barracks. they dont take kindly speeding.

Not as many as it may seem. Just the wheels, interior, borla exhaust, k&n, stereo, and shaved tailgate. That's it. Thanks for the compliment.

Flowmasters will help. I put them on my truck (the picture below was taken 5 days before I had it done, so it still has the stock exhaust there) and they picked my mileage up by about 1 mpg. I went from always getting 17-18 to always getting 18-19. This is in the cold weather too, hopefully this summer it will get 19-20 regularly, lol.

I increased my mileage by almost 15% and I have a pretty heavy foot. My 01 has the 5.3 liter.

Removed the screen on my MAF, put on a Gibson cat back system dual side exit, and added a superchip processor. That was using a drop in K & N air filter.

I have since added a MAC cold air intake system with an aluminum air tube and expect that I will see even better milage. Althought the throttle response I get on acceleration may just negate that improvement. :iceslolan (note: MAC system is almost $100 bucks less than the K & N FIPK system.)

I also adjusted my shift points to the max using the superchip. So we'll see how things go.

In pure numbers... around town, went from 13.5/14 - 16.5.

just my :2cents:
