Anyone know where I can get a good new Camper Top for my 2002 Tacoma? How much would a good one cost? What is the best brand? Dallas or Houston area locals will help a lot.

Just an FYI, I picked up a very nice fiberglass at the local junkyard, wrecked Toyota Tacoma, only paid $ 50.00 for the top. Had to replace one of the side windows, broken out in the accident, and have it painted the color of my truck, but that is probably $1000.00 less than it cost new.

I like the fiberglass one better, my friend has a metal one, and it take 3 people to put on/take off his truck. I can put mine on/take off by myself, takes a little work putting it on, but I've got it down to a science.

Just my 2 cents

Aluminum suck! That is what we have for our work trucks and we replace them all of the time. The cross supports break when off road due to flex. I have had a fiberglass one for a while and it is very useful and holds up well even with a canoe on top and very rough rocky roads. I would say the most sturdy ones are LEER and ARE. LEER will put extra support inside the fiberglass if you want. I got mine for $1000. I see them used for much less all the time.

WOW, I had no idea that thay cost so much money. I thin I'll try to find one in a junkyard. Hey Skinner, Where do you live, I mean, in a rural or urban area? I don't know if the yards around here would have one.

Call the local Toyota Dealer and ask if he sells the totaled out Tacoma's to one of the local junk yards. I live in Va Beach, but the junk yard the trucks go to is about 30 miles away, but it's worth the drive. I've got all kinds of stuff from the junk yard; extra stock chrome rim ($25), head light ($10), tail light ($10), bumper cover ($30), rear bumper ($30), etc...

The yard I go to, usually has approx. 10-15 Tacoma's in a row, and once it's clean of good parts, they remove it, and put the next one in it's place, good source for used parts, just be careful when you buy.
