I'm getting a 1989 T-bird with the 3.8l V6(is it ohv or sohc?I saw no cam gears) I would assume I could use the mounts from the 5.0 T-bird and the motor should be a nice little drop in. I won't be doing this myself,as I have already pulled apart a 300zx and just need one project car at time. This is my daily drive, and just want to know how much a 5.0 swap would cost me. I'm not planing to drop this in as of right now,but I might do it before August just to be safe(college). What am I looking at as far as prices go? I'd wanna keep it automatic, being the daily and a domestic, automatic would be the best option for me. (my zx will be my weekend/autocross car).

I believe the 89 3.8 is Single Overhead Cam. The 3.8 to the 5.0 will not be a "Drop in". The tranny will not bolt up the the 3.8 and the computer will not be compatible. If you want to go that way you can probably get a reman 5.0 (minus tranny) jasper engine for around $3,500 plus labor and computer.
Also may want to pull the rear end from the 5.0 while your at it as the stock rear may not hold up under the 302/5.0.
I would get a bird with the 5.0 already instaled and use that as the project car and strip yours for other parts.
If it were me and all it will be is a drive to work car I would spend the $3,500 and get a reman 3.8 jasper and be out the door in a few days including labor. The jaspers do not come with an intake and carb so they will pull your off the old motor. They also come with a standard 3 year/70,000 mile warranty

The 3.8 is not an over head cam trust me. Me and my step dad tore it down and completly rebuilt one.
