You all have probably see recent ford advertising for the mustange gt. they say that the mustang gt has 260hp. i actually has 258.9 at the fly wheel, and a supprisingly low 198hp at the wheel.

well, i don't believe they are that weak, but if your numbers are correct ford wouldn't TECHNICALLY be false advertising if they never said that 260hp was at the rear wheels, just saying 260hp doesn't mean that it is placed at the wheels

um, why is this post worthy????? all modern cars are rated that way, the last camaros only got like 300hp at the wheels, when they were dynoed at 345 at the flywheel. all power ratings are at the flywheel, and they obviously loose power through the drivetrain getting to the rear wheels.

...................... I think that we are a little more intelegent now because of that post. All car manufactures do that 258.5 HP...... Here is another, the beloved LS1 is accually a 346...... if you do the math, it is not a true 5.7 :eek7: oh and the 302 ford is accually not a true 5.0...... hell even my old school 200cc three wheeler is accually 197cc.
oh and you need to check your wheel HP again they are way wrong

1.1 under the advertised horsepower, but don't get a refund because of that. Get a refund cause its ugly and slow.

You guys are making all this big deal that the car is only 1 under the advertised hp, but it really has less than 200hp hitting the street. Now, I know that most car companies do that but the difference between 260hp and 198 is horrible. My 94 Camaro I found listed as 275hp, and when I had it on the Dyno (still stock) it was 257hp. Now come on thats 18hp difference as opposed to 60hp difference.

There is absolutely no way your Camaro has 275 at the flywheel if it dynoed at 257whp. It must be horribly underrated :) (6.5% drivetrain loss is impossible, it's usually 15-20% for RWD cars)

I'm just going off what I saw on the internet somewhere that said it was 275hp stock, but I saw it with my own eyes when on the dyno--- 257

96 - 97 where rated at 285 Horsepower do to the exhaust change but most lt1's are under rated and do provide the rear wheels with somewhere around 250 horse's most find that LT1's actually put out between 285 -295 horsepower to the flywheel

I want to clarify my above statement...
If your car dynoed at 257, it means that it has significantly more than 275 at the flywheel, which therefore means that the manufacturer underrated the engine's output.

I agree , 257 to the wheels on a 6 speed car usually means you have somewhere around 289 at the flywheel

I have heard before that the 93-95 Camaros had 275 horses, but I also heard in 96 they changed some computer components, not sure which ones .Once again this is what I heard(in no way to be confused with facts),The changes resulted in 310 horses.

Thats true that is the year they went to OBD 2 but with all the same sensors except the knock sensor. Also the 95 model year California F-body LT1 had OBD 1 but with the Exhasut mod and was producing the same exact dyno resulted as OBD 2 cars, They both have the same factory setting and sensor's the only change is do to government regulation to have a universal diagnostic port with standard trouble codes. And I wish they produced that many horse but like I said all I ever heard was 285 - 295 at flywheel

the 97 z28's also had aluminum heads, which also resulted in more hp. not sure if the 96's had aluminum heads, they might have...

All LT1 F-bodys and Vettes had Aluminum heads and all LT1 F-body's are within 10 Horsepower so no year has any real advantages over any other except 94 -97 have a advantage in my opinion because of the larger injectors used and the new computer setting's that where used with Mass Air Flow system but other people have disputed me so that argument can go either way

i know for a fact that some of the early lt1's had cast iron heads, i've seen them. and i am 99% sure that it was a special thing that the last of the lt1's had

I also heard that '94 is the last year before they started putting govenors on LT1's. I think this is true because the fastest we could get my friends '97 Z28 was 120, and I have gotten my '94 up to 135. I think they said that the Lt1 tops out at 160. Has anyone done that, just to be sure its true?

I have gone over 120 in my car but I have my car programmed so I don't know but you could can find out pretty easy with a call to a F-body tuner

well aslong as u have Z rated tires from the factory then ur car should not have a govenor.
