Auto Meter Problems.

I'm working on an 88 Toyota Supra and installing a few Auto Meters. I am having problems installing an Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge and I have connected both by power and my ground right, the problem I face is the third wire which is suppost to splice into the PCM (powertrain control) so it can read the signal from the O2 Sensor. But being an 88 model there is no PCM. Can anyone offer advice on how to install this Meter or where I should go to find help?

If all else fails just run a wire directly to the O2 sensor in the engine bay from the gauge, then wrap it to the harness and put the wire loom back over it. Either way it's not going to do much of anything, basicly hooked up to the stock O2 sensor on a 7m-gte it's only going to be a blinky-blinky-fun light. If you want a real usable A/F gauge you'll need to get a wideband, Autometer does make one but you'd be much better off paying alittle more and getting alot more. FJO makes a very nice one, as well as a few others.

Thank you for your help. I really didn't want to mess with the O2 sensor that much. I hope the FJO is an easier install.

If you get a wideband it should come with a wideband O2 sensor also, so you'll have to drill and tap a O2 bung for it. It will be harder to install, much harder than splicing three wires.

i have a 88 supra im wondering what wire it is on the ecu side i need to tap my green wire on?

thats nothing new to me im wondering what wire it is ive tryed the o2 wire on the ecu and it dosnt work.

The Vilolet wire on the gauge goes to the 02 signal wire coming from the sensor. You should have a heated O2 sensor which is a round 3 wire connector. Hold the connector so that the notch that locks the connector together is up. There should be one pin on top and two on the bottom. The one on top is the signal wire, and the two on the bottom are the heater power wires. You want to hook into the one on top.

that wire tap into the ecu if so what color is it?

Yes that is the wire that runs to the ECU. It is easier to tap in at the sensor. That way you don't have to rip into the glove box, go fishing for the ECU, and mess with the harness. In fact that is what Autometer shows in the instructions. Spilce in after the O2 sensor and before the ECU.
