Looking for help with water leak site

By raising awareness of the water leak problems we hope to force GM to acknowledge the situation, and bring satisfaction to consumers.

My Avalance also sucks!!! help!!
My truck leaks in the back part of the bed and i cant leave anything in there when it rains!
The cab also leaks at the back fold down door!!
The plastic on the out side of the truck is turning white and looks like tiger strips.The dealer said this is normal and all avalanches leak!!!!!!

My avalanche leaks like a water fall!!!
The cab leaks!!!! The bed leaks!!!!
The plastic is turning white and looks like tiger strips!!!
The dealer is no help ,states that avalanches leak. live with it!!!

After removing the rear bench from the vehicle, we found that there's water coming into the cabin from around the mounting bolts of the bench.

To verify, have the bench removed. Then using a hose, spray the under carriage of the truck near and around the area below the mounting bolts. From our test, we immediate saw water coming into the cabin right from the mounting bolts.

We suspected the midgate, but when parked the truck facing downhill and run water from a hose into the bed (fast enough to get accumulation against the midgate), we saw no leaks into the cabin. So it appears (so far) for out case, the midgate is not suspect, but rather mounting bolts (and who know where else) we may be getting a leak from.

We'll update as soon as we get this fixed.

I want to know about the water leakage test for truck cabin that how to do that in a technical measure and how to measure that.
also tell about the measure of the water leakage like in air leakage testing of the trucks cabins EBHS(equivalent body hole size, sqcm) is the measure means .

First off, this thread is 4 years old...you should start your own thread.

Second, there is no quantifiable water leakage test. You'd have to partially submerge the truck to get a consistent flow rate or have a steady hand with a garden hose spray gun. Then measuring the amount leaked in would have to be collected and divided into the amount of water used at what pressure, etc.

Since these trucks are used for launching boats, a public boat launch ramp would be your first destination for all-over leak testing. Get some friends/spotters (and probably a second truck to help tow you out in an emergency). I'd also suggest removing as much of the floor's interior trim, carpet, etc., as possible to minimize water damage and hasten your chances of spotting leak sites.

Most holes are in the firewall, along the step line (under the plastic trim), and in the corners of the cab. Other penetrations are usually the seat bolts. Some trim pieces may be held by screws that penetrate the cabin shell so you'll have to either remove the trim & replace the screws or plug those holes after removal.

This is all hypothetical...can't imagine what a quantified leak test would reveal unless you wish to turn your Av into a boat. Good luck!

I have owned a 2002-2003- 2004 and now a 2008, first three all had over 130,000 when I got rid of them, no leaks, 2008 has 21,000, no leaks. I really can't believe all the crying about leaks, or are my 4 vehicles an anommaly?

I have a 2002 the water colects in a void that is under the mid gate. I took the mid gate off and took the plastic off and drilled 2 3/8" holes in the bottom so the water drains out. The 03 had this done at the factory. No more wet carpet.

I would suggest that if you drill holes to help drain water, first file down the sharp edges of the hole and then coat the exposed bare metal with a primer or other rust preventative paint.

I have an 05 Suburban and water is leaking into my passenger side footwell. A moderate, short rain leaves a soaked carpet and a puddle in the r.f corner.

How many others are having this problem???

Fixed it. It was a leaking, poorly sealed panel under the cowl above the pass. side.

More GM quality workmanship. :(
