I have a 1984 Euro 635csi that may be missing several items. When diagnosing a unrelated problem my nephew located a disconnected computer unit in the engine compartment in the well where the windshield wiper motors are located. The unit in on the passenger side. The disconnected connector cable (large) winds its way to a location behind the battery and has a connector that is also not connected to anything. There is a location where something was bolted on before it seems that could be the ABS unit?
The brake lines are connected with tee fittings in that general location but do not look like it left the factory that way. In addition, if I brake hard I get a stone hard pedal, but during a normal stop it all feels fine.
Any thoughts on how to best proceed?

Many will just unplug the computer to remove the red ABS light if the ABS is failing.
