Stereo went out

I first had this problem in December, I went out to my car, turned it on, tried to turn on the radio and nothing. The stereo has power, it displays stations and runs cd's, but i get nothing through the speakers. Later that day i tried it again and it came on. Recently though its been going out for days and sometimes it will come on for about a minute then it will make a kind of pop noise and just stop. I've noticed the only times it comes on is if the volume is all the way down and turned off before the car is started, then i start the car (with the air off), and sometimes i can turn the stereo on and turn up the volume and it will work. Do you have any ideas about this at all? its in a 91 Honda Civic EX

is this a factory radio ......do you have external amps ... ?

it's probably just gone bad .......... you might be better off just buying a new one. It's not like there is something else that is bad or not turning on - unless you're wiring harness is coming lose.
