2000 power window issues

I own a 2000 Sport. My driver side power window will not work properly. When I try to use the auto feature the window will not stop...up or down. Does anyone know if I need to replace the whole motor or just a small part? I know I can take it to a friend's shop and have him replace the motor for around $130.00 but if I don't have to replace the motor I don't want to.
Thanks in advance....

No replies all week...so does this mean that nobody else has had this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When you say "does not stop up , or down" do you mean it keeps going (running up, or down) even though you have let go of the switch?

If that is the case It sounds like a bad switch.

If it is not going up, or down you need to first check the fuse or circuit breaker to see if they are good. Next pull the door panel and see if you have voltage to the wires when you apply the switch (unplug the plug that connects to the window motor and check for voltage on the car side of the plug. If you have voltage at that point but no window action then use a battery charger or a 12v battery as a power supply and connect it to the window side of the plug to power the window motor to see if the window goes up/down. Reverse polarity to reverse window motor.

If you have power from the switch but no go on the motor you have a bad motor.

If the motor runs with power applied to it then you have a bad switch or possibly bad wireing.

Only when I try to use the automatic feature on the window it doesn't stop up or down...when I let go of the switch it does stop. So, I guess it is a switch problem. Thanks.
