hey guys it's me again, I just bought a 90 cherokee, my problem is that when I shift into 4 wheel drive the front driveshaft is turning but my axle is not engaging, I was told it could be the Axle shift motor, I put the truck up and looked and the motor is really loose, you can twist it with one finger, Is it suppose to be like this? where can I get a new one? there are 3 vacuum lines that run to it, 2 on the inside towards the diff, of which have vacuum to them, and one on the outside towards the wheel, which I could not feel any vacuum, any help on this would be much appreciated, thanks

if you do some searching through the older posts here (I'm thinking I saw it in august, maybe september), there was a nice post, complet with pics and a step by step "how to", for replacing the vacume system with a manually operated one. (if I remember corectly it used something lie a manual choke cable, in stead of the vacuum system).
not only was this more reliable (and cheaper as I racal than fixing hte vacuum system), but it also gave you the option of having your rig in 4-lo, and disengaging the front axel. in effect giving you another option of 2wd-low range. (very handy if you need to make a sharp turn and don't want to shift out of low)
