I was sitting at my desk today (well I still am, but..) and my boss is standing by the window and he says "there's someone taking pictures of your truck!" I didn't believe him so I didn't jump up right away to look and therefore didn't witness it. I did see the guy drive away, but wasn't able to get plate or anything. All I know is he was driving a white Oldsmobile or soemthing...weird! If it had been another Xterra driver I wouldn't be so concerned, but this is kind of bothering me. My boss said he was taking pictures of my rear bumper, so I figure that's what he was interested in, unless he was taking pictures of my license plate! :( Obviously this hoser had seen it before since I doubt he was just driving by and happened to have a camera with him. Maybe I should go check the local Nissan dealer to see if there is a white Olds parked outside?

Am I just a paranoid schitzo? I don't know if I should be worried or take it as a compliment.

Take it as a compliment. He's probably trying to figure out where to get a bumper like yours.

Why wasn't he driving his Xterra if the guy has one? Seems wierd you'd drive up in an Olds to take a picture of the X? Maybe his Soccer Wife is driving it?

I'd take it as a compliment. Although there has been some theft in the seattle area of bolt-on SUV parts. You might want to make sure it is hard for something like that to unbolt. Apparently thieves come with tools and take the stuff off real quick in the unlikliest places.

My guess is someone liked it and wanted to take a pic so they could find the same stuff. Also small time writers n others will take pics like that on the run for various stories without paying any dues for photos etc.

Since its parked in front of the office I wouldnt worry, I leave mine in a lot downtown a lot and people are always touching it n stuff (and scratching it ).

I was driving on the 520 coming to the Redmond exit, and had a 2000 Aztec Red Xterra in front and behind me. Chuck if you had been driving home it would have gotten really strange. :smoker:

Schlud,

Was one of them a Canadi 'uhh"n model like yours with PF wheels and a middle aged guy driving? I've seen that one going that direction. I came home on 520, but I was really late tonight. I think I got into Redmond about 6:45. If I had been there when you were, I think that would have been ALL the Aztec Red Xterras in the state! :D

OK guys...I won't worry about the guy taking pictures of my truck. I'll just have to get a "protected by S&W" sticker now so they think I'm a redneck and will leave my truck alone!

I don't remember. One had a WAAG and those stupid taillight guards, with a grey haired guy wondering what the hell was driving past him (me). The other was just a stocker.

speaking as an insurance guy here.
if someone steals your truck, the insurance company is going to only cut you a check for the blue book (nada book) value. so if your x is gone one morning all your bolt ons will not be replaced.
most people don't insure add on accessories. its not a bad idea because its not that expensive. its based on value of the item ( arb or winch or tunes) so all you need is a bill of sale or something showing the value and it can be insured. just an idea.

That's too bad for you guys. I know up here in Canaduh whatever you bolt to your vehicle (as a vehicle part of course) it's covered, with limits for certain things like stereos. Proof of purchase and installation is enough. I asked once about my bike rack and Yakima cargo box on my Civic. It was "part of the car" now and thus covered. Granted, if you have tons of expensive stuff (lockers, bumper, and those really cool NOS stickers) it would only make sense to document it well and at least notify your insurance company before anything happens.

But, evergreen, if you are an insurance guy ... well I guess you know best how it works in your neck of the woods and for your company. Are you saying if somebody buys bitching 22" mags for their Civic and it gets stolen, they're shit outta luck?

I have been told by my agent (who is also a trusted family friend) that anything bolted or securely attached is covered by theft. Say, someone pulls up one night and steals my bumper, as long as there was proof that I had an aftermarket bumper. Pics are great for this. Of course the cost must be more than my deductable and any claims on my policy will cost me a discount, so I will be paying for it for the next 5 years in higher insurance costs.

However, if the whole vehicle is stolen, then I would only get the blue book value. At least As I understand it. BTW, often times, BLue Book Values are not enough to pay off a loan on the vehicle, therefore extra gap insurance is nearly always a good idea.

Just my thoughts...

It could go either way Chuck. It could be someone who just liked the truck/bumper or it could be someone casing the truck/bumper. It might be wise to set up a little extra security, a club or shift lock, perhaps a tack weld here and there.

My insurance covers upto 1000 in add-ons. My current set-up is just a tad over that. When I get the SR skids, I'll be calling my ins co to have all my additional stuff documented and covered.

Just in case, last year I went to goto work and my 5.0 was gone. All that remained was some of my window and tint.

And yes. If you didn't put down enough or your paying off over too long a period, gap ins is good.

some companies will replace items that are bolted on. the majority will not unless you added them to your policy. each company has different methods.

Insurance Co's say stuff but you better have it in writing coz' they sing a different tune when things actually happen. Just make sure you dont have Allstate.... (www.allstateinsurancesucks.com). I had a $35000 Z-71 with all the goodies on it and some punk ran into the side of it (and me) at 70MPH. I wont tell you what it took to get it repaired and I had the top policy!! It was seriously messed up. My tires were torn and they just wanted to patch the sidewalls!! No wonder the Allstate head office in Marysville is surrounded by bullet-proof glass...

Thats my rant.......was it good for you?:smoker2:

Yeah, I had no impression of them until I had my "experience." It is funny that Washington protects Insurance companies and lets them walk all over people. I dont think I am bashing Allstate as I have a long, long, long, long discourse with them and some of the things that were said to me and done to me were UNBELIEVABLE. If I didnt have a source for info on the "inside" I would have been totally cleaned out instead of mostly cleaned out. I was seriously injured and got shafted with that too. I dont try and defame or bash them - I merely recount what happened (disclaimer). There are Judges, Attorneys and average joes all over the US banding together sharing their experiences. Lawyers have to attend a certain amount of seminars per year to stay bar-certified and there is actually an anti-allstate seminar!!! And they say Microsoft is bad....

Apparently State Farm and Geico are the most "honest" of the insurance companies from what ive read.

ChuckH

Oh no, State Farm and Geico are just as bad as the others and Geico is one of the worst, IMO. I have Allstate now, but I haven't had any major claims and my rates are cheap. They have never screwed up my billing or anything either. Having heard other's problems though, I'm very afraid of ever needing them for something major. They were OK when I had a rock ding in my hood. I have friends who have made major claims with them with no problems though. Doesn't mean anything...just their experiences.

That being said, I did have a fairly good sized claim with State Farm and it went OK, but they went cheap on me with my repairs. They also continuously got my billing and payments all screwed up, leaving me with insurance lapses and such while they figured it out. I'd get letters. I'd get contradicting letters in the mail saying that my insurance had lapsed and that my payment was made. I was like "huh?" Then I'd call them and they wouldn't know what the fuck was going on either.

I don't like Geico because A: They buy radar guns and such for the police, and B: I knew a guy once who got sued by them when they were his insurance company. Sure, he was at fault, but they are suppose to protect you when you screw up...that's the idea. He won the case, but it still leaves a sour taste.

I use to have Unigard years ago and they were fine, but horribly expensive.

The company I work for has Safeco for most of their policies. They are greedy and screw with us too!

So, I guess my challenge is to find an insurance company that really is good and is actually interested in helping people. I'm quite convinced they all suck and none of them are interested in the welfare of their policy holders.

Insurance sucks!

insurance does suck, until you need it......
i agree that most companies are only after a profit, and the policy holders get to suffer.
you have no idea the stories that i have heard.

Chuck, I think he was taking a picture for Mullet Magazine !

While on the insurance topic:

As you know (eh Schlud) In BC the only car insurance you can get is regulated by the Government. We pay the highest premiums in Canada and I used to think it really sucked !. BUT I have had a total of 5 claims (EXTREMELY high crime ratio in Vancouver) since 1996 (my first ride in BC was a JEEP) adn I must say it is good to know that you are covered adn do not have to go to court to get full coverage. $100 deductable is nothing when the dammage is $1489.32

So my motto is: If you wanna steal it, better make sure it's toast cause I get a new X

I have Allstate and haven't had any problems with them. But I haven't had any claims against them either. I carry a $500 deductable, therefore I usually just pay out of pocket for any small incidents. But I always consult my insurance agent (remember they are close family friends). They give me my options. I can either make a claim and have the insurance pay, and lose a discount, or I if the reapir cost is less than my deductable, I can just pay for the repair and forget about the insurance. I have paid out twice in the last couple of years at a total cost of $400 to get things repaired. It's truly amazing how much cheaper body shops are when you tell them that you will not be billing the insurance. Quotes from shops for insurance companies are always expensive.

AllState actually has an agreement with a few body shops in town. Basically if the shop says they need something, then Allstate will pay it, without questions. These are all reputable and good shops so at least around here they don't seem to skimp on repairs.

But All insurance companies can screw you at any time.
