I bought a 92 Camry with a distributor problem, what I mean is if I remove the cinch bolt on the distributor and advance it past the bolt hole line ups it will smooth out .Being a slotted and not a helical gear dist.I don't know of a way to correct this, ideas? I put a compression gauge on #1 cyl to make sure it wasn't 180 degress out and it's not.Thought maybe I had the wrong dist. changed it out, same problem.Help!

Vhat,
I know this isn't going to be much help and I'm no mechanic but I just had to have my distributor replaced in my 92 Camry 4-cyl. Expensive? Yes, $775 worth but I had to have it done since I'm keeping it for a while and it came into the Toyota dealer on a tow truck. Yep, broke down alright.....had to walk almost three miles back home to call the tow truck and then get a ride back to the car. Lots o' fun. I have about 160,000 miles on it and it just went out from one second to the next and I was on the side of the road with my flashers on. I hope you can get yours fixed or at least get a good price on a new one. Best of luck.

I recently had my distributer replaced with a rebuilt one for $250 including laber. It's been running perfect for 3 months now.
