FF is definately not the format to learn to drift in. More like plow understeer for someone of your driving experience. My advice, forget it. You will end up with one written off GTi, and unimpressed parents, friends and insurance companies.

Dunno. I have a fully built SX engine in a car weighing 200kg less and run 14.2s.

There are a lot of 'fun' things you can do in a FF, I'm into precision/high speed handling in mine. Just got revalved shocks, new lowered 1" springs put on mine. Combined with a front strut brace and coming soon rear strut brace and front/rear sway bars, it's pretty sweet :)

Easy kW NEVER = low cash, unfortunately.
What exhaust did you get? 2" cat back? You can look at some good 4-2-1 extractors and a cold air feed to your filter.

The specs on my engine are:
Shaved head (around 11.5:1 compression)
TRD Stage 2 Race Cams
CAI
4-2-1 extractors into 2.5" pipes with a 3" canon
NGK Spark Plugs, Top Gun Leads and about 5 degrees of ignition advance
Comp pistons

Yeah, good plugs and leads mean guaranteed full combustion. :)

The most potential power from your engine. A bigger spark guarantees combustion.
