I have 91 Z28 5 speed with shifting problems. When the engine is cold it takes the car a long time to get up to speed almost like the clutch isnt disengaging. After the car warms up the car drives normal. Burning smell is noticed after short drive. Does this sound like a bad clutch, or a going bad tranny? My thought is that the clutch plate is bent, or isnt alligned and just takes a while to reset it self. can anyone please help.

You would hear tranny problems i.e. syncs grinding, shift lever popping out of gear while under acceleration, hypoid gears eating themselves up, I would say it is time for a pressure plate, friction disc, t/o bearing, pilot bearing, and flywheel resurfacing. Only becuase you said you can smell something burning. Some techs say a way to test the cluctch is to drive normally in any gear and see how far you have to push on the clutch pedal before the engine becomes disengaged from the trans. If there is not much travel then you may need a clutch, but you could also have a bad Slave or Clutch master cylinder. Just have an expert check it out for you.

yeah i would tend to agree, with a manual, they arent really good at hiding internal faiulres, i mean its just a set of gears, nothing to slip, when a gear goes, you know it. but it does sound like a clutch problem, and id recomend having a shop check it out for ya, its only an hour checkout fee of 80 bucks here in alexandria, (could be diff elsewhere) to me that would be worth getting it diagnosed properly and knowing what to fix.
