It's a lot easier to drive than most sports cars, thanks to AWD and good weight balancing.

Basically, it depends on how you drive.
At 80% of the capabilities of the car, the STi is harder to drive than most other vehicles. The transmission is very close ratio, so it means A LOT of shifting driving around town or on the track. At speeds that won't get you arrested, it is not particularly difficult to drive, and is better if the weather is bad with appropriate tires. At the limit, the STi has a lot of strange handling quirks well beyond what even the WRX has, and takes a lot of getting used to.
BTW, the wieight balance on the STi is not particularly good, with too much front weight bias and the engine almost completely ahead of the front wheels.
