1985 Mustang GT

I am really considering to get a 1985 mustang gt with a V8 302 that I found. I was wondering if anyone knows a lot about this car and year and any problems it might develop.

If it is in good shape and worth the money buy it ! It's an 85 not brand new. I got one bringing it back to life. Almost done. Go for it!!!!

Its another EFI ford so the idle may be off, plastic door handles may break, T5 is shit, AOD can be decent, other than that you should be ok. If the idle is off check TPS KOEO should read .9v-1v, should be about 5v runing. The door handle is a quick easy replacement with an aftermarket metal handle. As far as trans goes dont beat on the t5 too hard and put a shift kit & seal kit along with a converter if you want good results outta your AOD. Hold the accumulator all the way out with a peice of pipe instead of a spring if you dont wanna spend any money on it. Also you can run Type F fluid in the trans for harder crisper shifts, but i would suggest a full fluid flush before changing. Good Luck, they are great cars and you can look for just as many if not more problems with any other F-body 80's-90's car.

85 ..last of the carbureted Mustangs!!!!! my guess may be a collectable some day. Good pair of heads too. Roller cam also, I believe.

I believe it is already considered a collectable. It is the last year of the carb. I'll have mine for some years to come!!!

The 85 cylinder heads were not that good though, with a slightly larger combustion chamber and a lower compression of 8.4:1 to the 87+ cylinder heads of 9.0:1 compression.

If your serious about the car, check for body rot, twisted or bent sub frames and core supports, see how the mileage is, listen for motor knock, check for any fluid leaks. A Mustang of that year is bound to have a few minor problems, weather it's cosmetic or mechanical.
