Help! 1998 Gtp Problem

My wifes 98' gtp dies seconds after you start it. When you turn the ignition the fuel pump builds pressure to about 54 psi, I start the car and pressure drops and it dies at about 15 psi. Once dead with the igniton still on the pump kicks back on and back up to 54 psi. What is causing the fuel pump to not work once the engine is running. Thanks in advance.

Ripn12s thanks for the good info. The resistor was not the problem. I took a plug and rolled it over and I have good spark. Does that eliminate the ignition module? I'm thinking crank postion sensor. Is their anyway to test it at home? Thanks again

As Ripn12s showed you the national ClubGP forum is a good place to search for info...if it's happened to someone before you can find it there.

As for the CPS being bad, I would think if it was faulty it would have thrown a code - are you getting any SES faults? Ditto with the ignition module. Besides I would think you would have starting problems if either were bad.

Something is wrong with your fuel delivery system...the pressure should never drop to 15 psi. In fact as long as the vac line is connected, it should idle with aprox. 50lbs and go up as boost increases. Maybe something partially clogged your fuel filter? Theory would be as long as there was no fuel flow the pump could build pressure in the line.

Thanks Son, I've done tons of searching and learned alot about my car. When I get this thing fixed I'm going to write up everything I've done and what actually fixed it. It seems like every thread ends with no resolution. I just tried 2 more things. I tried to keep it going with carb cleaner. Didn't stay running. Then I put the pressure gauge back on it, turned the key to prime and it's holding steady at 44 psi. Start and pressure drops off and dies. With the carb cleaner trick wouldn't it stay running if it was a fuel problem? I think for some reason the fuel pump is not coming back on after ignition. I just don't know what. I want to all diagnosing I can before I go wasting money on parts I don't need. Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated Thanks again.
