blue smoke seen coming out exhaust

i passed my buddy the other day and was really on it if you know what i mean. and when i met him at the bar he said there was blue smoke blowing out my exhaust pipes. can someone give my some insite as to what might be causeing this. its a 1998 with 86,000 miles on it. should i be very alarmed or not?????

Blue smoke means your burning oil, Black smoke usually means a rich air/fuel mixture, and a white/gray mixture usually means your leaking coolent into the combustion chambers.

if you were on it...you might have blown the head gasket out..or if it was hot, you could have warped the head....thats all the big stuff

I understand that n* engines are know to burn oil. Mine does just a little. you can only see it at night in the head lights of other cars behind you.
