P0401 code said Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficent Detected.
P0430 code said Catatyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2).
Does this mean I will need a new Catalytic converter? I've replaced the EGR valve. Can anybody help?

what year and how many miles? Have you checked the DPFE sensor? The sensor is known to go bad. But, if you have high mileage you may have carbon build up in the EGR tube.

I also have a similar problem (trouble code P0430).
Has your problem since been fixed? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Changing the DPFE sensor fixed the P0401 code and I haven't had any trouble in about a year. My car had 36800 miles-just out of warranty. I did find out that Ford (Through other individuals who had the same problem) had some kind program, not a "recall" but extended warranty on this part due to excessive problems. Unfortunately, although I bought the part from Ford they refused to reimburse me for the part because they 1) Attempted to notify all affected owners (I bought my car used and didn't get any notification) and 2) I did not get it repaired at the dealership. The worst part of this was that I brought my car to the dealership first, with 36,800 miles, told them I had a P0401 code and asked if any part of the EGR system was covered by an extended warranty. They said no. AZ, who read the code, tried to sell me an EGR valve but after serching on the internet under the code I figured out it was the sensor. Now if Ford was having that many problems with the sensor that it "extended its coverage" the service dept could have mentioned that.

I just called the dealer and the sevice department said that they extended the warrenty to 60,000 on the DPFE sensor. But of course, my 2001 SES has 61,000 miles and the check engine light went on last week and it will cost about $130 for parts and labor to replace it at the dealership, IF that's the problem. I'm taking it in tomorrow to find out, unfortunately where I live, we have to pass an emissions test every two years and it won't pass with this fault. The guy at the autozone showed me where the EGR valve assembly was and it looks like a bit of a pain to dismantle (between the back of the engine and fire wall) and install a new one not knowing if that's the problem according to the engine light codes. So I'll probably just bite the bullet.

You can buy the DPFE sensor from a parts store for anything up to a 99.
I haven't been able to confirm whether the part numbers change or not on the 2000. It will take about five minutes to change out and the part cost about $80.00 from the dealership.

Thanks, but call me a sucker, it was that part and the part cost $30 plus $70 labor, $10 shop supplies + tax put me back $120. I found the part online for $24.50 at a ford wholsale parts web site. I called ford and filed a complaint concerning this part they knew was faulty and had extended the warrenty to only 60K. It won't do any good, but I'll eat up some of their overhead filing it. Now comes the coil spring recall that they don't have parts for yet.
