I am looking at a 99 ss with 67k and headers and 4.10 gears and an $1800 stereo system with 6 speed and t-tops. Is it worth it? The guy want 13 thousand.

yea thats about right, but make it can still pass inspection with the headers and whatever else it has, when you drive it try to listen to the rear, make sure its done right with no noise or whinning

and are you gonna be happy with the 410s? if you do alot of highway driving you might wanna change them out

yea i agree with ridge, the price sounds about right, but you do gotta decide if it is practical for you to have 410s (but like ridge said, u can change em) i say buy it

yeah get it, and if you want to change rear's I'll take the 4.10's off your hands.

Take into consideration that if this person already has 4.10's on it it means that he has raced. U don't know how many of them 67k miles are from the track. I would still buy it though but thats because i love camaros.

Nope i found it on the internet. I have a bunch of camaro pictures as my screen saver on my computer. My car is a 00Z28 black with silver pen strips. Yeah the avator is from some guy named josh with a kick ass red Z28.

How much do the 4.10 gears increase the acceleration?

Well if u have ever driven a camaro with stock gears and then u drive one with 4.10's u will really feel the difference. They will plant u in ur seat off the line.

I heard there are drawbacks to the 410s.
Since they make every gear shorter they make you go through every gear quicker, and so in a 1/4 mile race where stock you might go through 3 gears and finish at the end of third, w/ 410s you might end up finishing at the beginning of fifth, and actually perform worse. Someone had brought this up at camarov6.com, and I think they said 373 were optimum, but that could only be for the v6.

3.73's for A4 and 4.10's for M6

well what does everyone else think about that are the 4.10's gonna make it worse in the quarter?

nope... you should definitely play more gran turismo. (I use this alot... it's a damn good game)

Break out GT3 and play around with the gear ratios in a camaro SS. I think the gearing helps alot more than they hurt in the 1/4

Come on, you can't base real life on a game!

410s decrease top speed right? is there a way to increase top speed by putting higher rear gears in on a stock camaro or are the gears on the camaro the minimum? gran turismo has camaros? i thought it was rice cars?

rearend gearing does dramatic changes to your top speed. i used to have a 2.73 on my camaro (it's pictured w/ that rearend) now i have a 3.42 posi and it will accelerate off the line dramatically faster. the drawback tho, i took down my top speed from about 140, to about 100. my top speed is incredibly low right now. like i said, dramatic changes, if you want to increase top end then you give the rear a shallower gear, if you want better acceleration, deeper rear end helps alot.

then how do drag cars go over 200mph with 410s? high rpms? the way i see it w/ 410s if its in a 1:1 gear the engine would have to spin 4 times faster than the wheels. wouldnt the car be faster with higher gears if it has enough torque to compensate for the loss in acceleration?

I guess if that same car had 2.73s it would have over 25% less acceleration while the top speed would increase by the same factor.
