Rear speaker pods(pics)

Been lurking around these forums for a while now. Thought I would post a pic of the rear speaker pods I just glassed. Along with a pic of my ride since I haven't posted one yet.

I went with gloss black since eventually I hope to paint the whole car that color.

Sorry about the blurry image. They aren't perfect, but good enough for a first fiberglassing attempt. Not quite as extensive as Ci5ic's pods.

clean, not feelin the rims but as far as your mods it seems like your goin in the right direction! good job!

Thanks civicHB, I'm not feeling the rims either. They came with the car, along with a nightmare of a stereo install. I'm in the middle of ripping out most of what the previous owner did with the stereo and redoing it. I'm also planning on putting some 5 spokes on sometime.

5 spokes look good on hatches...that's what im rolling with right now. Those rims u have are more of a euro style.

not trying to hijack your thread, Thrill91Si. however, i have been meaning to post up some pod pics for awhile. figured this was a relevant subject.

and finally, the rear enclosure for my car. the old box i had took up 2/3 of my trunk. he made this form fit the corner so i could have my trunk back. one of thes days i'll take a pic of the underside. it form fits around the stut hump.

Ci5ic, i only used 2 layers of glass on the inside. Sand-bondo-sand-bondo-sand-60-100-150-320-00steel wool. Couple coats of primer, three coats of black paint, then two coats of laquer. I think they turned out damn nice. Thanks for the positive comments! :iceslolan

I'm working on some tweeter pods for the a-pillars now.... sound deadening the doors, replacing the parking brake cables. All this after replacing the master cylinder.

LadynredSi, your speaker pods look great as well! Make sure you post the finished product. I've still got my sub in a box for now. I'm planning on redoing the back of mine similar to Ci5ic's. False floor, battery moved to the back, sub enclosure in the corner like yours, and all amps attached to the floor. Of course, I have to wait until I can afford all that...

im curious have either of you thought of making a 6x9 pod? i saw the one mounted in the trunk cover but i was thinking about cutting the pods to fit a 6x9 but since i didnt have a spare to test with im kinda worried.

how much did it cost both of you to make the pods?

Nemo, I hadn't really considered using a 6x9 speaker since they are not supposed to be as accurate as a round speaker. In thinking about it, I am not sure what orientation would be best for a 6x9.

Since this was my first fiberglass project there were some expenses that I incurred this time that I won't have to pay again. I bought a respirator that ran me about $30, strongly suggested, the fumes will mess you up. I also picked up a hand grinder since I didn't have one yet. I also picked up some acetone, but you don't really need it unless you are planning to re-use the brushes or fiberglassing to plastic. I also picked up a router attachment for my dremel to make sure my circles were true, but that is not mandatory.

Resin including mekp - $8
Fiberglass mat - $4 much more than you need
Fleece fabric - ~$5 per yard, much more than you need
1/4" MDF - ~$4 much more than you need
Paint brushes - $1 per layer, I used 6 to 8

You also need mixing cups, a measuring cup, disposable rubber gloves, mixing sticks, something to cover the ground, dowel rods, all sorts of sand paper, and a well ventilated area, but you might already have most of those.
