I have read a few things about how you cant sand metallic paints as it takes away the shine and metallic flecks. I want to paint my HKS TUNED WRX metallic silver but this is kind of putting me off.
Could some one please give me a simple out line of how to finish a metallic paint successfully eg sanding, wet sanding, cutting compound polish, clear coats?
Im clear on how to prepare it eg sanding priming but just a little misty on the finish.
Thanks

I've painted my Focus with metallic paint and I used the same method as per any other paint and got the best finish ever! I don't think sandind takes the sine away. Well, it didn't on my case! :D
My painting process is:
1: wetsand the body with 1500 grit
2: 3 mistcoats of primer and 1 heavier coat
3: wetsand the primer with 2000 grit
4: 2 mist coats of paint (metallic or not)
5: 2 wetcotas of paint
6: compound as usual
7: wax as usual

heres my new method i just started with
1. do all body work
2. sand
3. wet sand 900 grit
4. primer light coat
5. final primer
6. 2000 grit sand primer
7. 1 light coat of paint
8. a final coat ofpaint
9. clear coat
10. polish and wax it
i found this works great on the bigger scale models, i used to do 1/43 scale and hard to work with
