i have a 1998 chevy 1500 z71 p/u. my shift indicator light blinks on and off and will stay off after a while. the thing is when the light is on, the 4wd will shift into 4w hi and lo. when the light is off it only shifts into 4w hi, and just blinks when put in 4w lo. please help.

Are you saying your PRNDL display blinks and then goes out? Does your tach and speedo work when the PRNDL goes out and does the transmission shift? If your tach and speedo don't work and the tranny doesn't shift, its probably an ignition switch problem. If the gauges work and tranny does shift, its a problem with the park/neutral position switch or its wiring

yes the prndl indicator light blinks and goes out (its a 98 so its a light not a display). all the gauges still work and the tranny stills shifts fine. the only thing that doesnt work is the 4 lo when the lights out. i took it to a tranny place and they said the indicator light and the 4 lo have no connection at all. i just need my 4 lo working and it only works when the indicator light is on.

Well the tranny place doesn't know about these. You must be in neutral to shift to 4LO. You could try wiggling the wires at the park/neutral position switch(on the drivers side of the tranny above the oil pan) or even pull the out on putting some dielectric grease on the connectors, don't pull on them really hard, there is a tsb out that says that the connectors could possibly get fused in the park/neutral switch from heat(which might be the original cause of your problem). There are two wiring connectors at the park neutral switch, your problem should be with the one that has 7 wires. The pink wire(post c) is the power wire from trans fuse, black(post d) is ground, yellow(post a) goes to the transfer case control module, one lt green(post b) goes to the TCC/stoplamp switch and the other lt green(post f) goes to back up lights. One purple(post e, may be yellow from ign switch crank) is 12V from the crank fuse and the other(post g) goes to the starter relay.
