new 325i idle

Hi,

I am new member here. I bought my new 325i last November. That was my dream-car and I really enjoy it. The only thing that bothers me is idle. It's just above 500 rpm (on a dashboard tachometer). I wouldn't probably notice it but I feel a very light vibration on idle. If I turn on a/c then idle goes to about 600 rpm and vibration disappears. This is not my first bmw and I know that rough idle is kind of normal for it but this is my first new bmw.

Any thought would be appreciated,

I would think that while your idleing with the air conditioning on that, like on most cars the A/C is making the engine work harder taking horsepower away. I would only worry if the engine was sputtering. Every car that I've had would idle a little lower. But if it's really bad I'd take to the dealer because it's still under warranty.:licker:

When you turn on your A/C the idle control valve compensates for the additional load on your engine. Thats why you see it jump slightly. I think 500 RPM idle with no load on the motor is a little low. Let the dealer look at it. If the idle is set properly, and the idle control valve is doing it's job correctly, you should never see your idle move as you put accessories on. ie A/C and even headlights.
