Higher top speed

What all can you do if anything to make the top speed of a motorcycle higher, other than aerodynamics... will increased horsepower do it or does the engine need to be biger(something like bore and stroke) or is it not possible. Thanks.

No, its very possible. The easiest/cheapest way would be to Re-gear. You can convert to a more top end inspired gearing and of course you will loose some low end but the top speed will be there when you need it. Check out some of the hayabusas because if you see a re geared busa its most likely for the top end. They have all kinds of weird combos. And anything else that would increase the top speed would prolly be costing you some pretty pennies. So I would just stick with the gearing if thats what your looking for.

It depends on what bike you are talking about.
A Y2K (the turbine powered bike) is limited to about 180 MPH. They tend to want to melt the rear tire off since the aero package isn't all that stellar.
There are some street leagal Busas out there that can smack 200 without too much trouble with the help of a turbo.
If your trying to up the speed of a 600, the cheapest way to gain speed is to get a bigger motor.

Kennedy, your wrong about the y2k. There is a guy in Oregon who owns one and was caught doing 225mph and was thrown in jail.
And just a side note, the 99-00 busas CAN and WILL go 208 stock. The speedo says 220 but in reality will go 208. I know someone who has one. Also why would you get a bigger motor in a 600? Thats a complete waste of money. Get a bigger bike to begin with.

the 99 unrestricted busa can only hit 208mph with a nice tailwindof about 15mph. On a low elevation 0mph wind run it can hit 196. I think the 03 zx12r with the bonneville box hits 194 in the same environment.
I also heard the same thing about the MTT Y2K bike, it has a pretty bad aero design and "the heat from the exhaust alone is enough to melt bumpers in traffic" (quote from jay leno).
regaurdless, anything after 160 is blurry.

true that.
there is not much of vision diff. between 140 and 170mph.
unless you are running out of rpm(gear), then regear, but most likely more power will help.

Im just direct quoting from my friend who has a 99 busa. His is fully stock and he has gotten to 208 before but also that is INDICATED so it may not have been actual. Either way it aint to far from that I can say that.
