I've noticed people have been painting either gold, or silver, or some other color before painting the outside color. What color should I use for a blue or gunmetal outside color? (and how do you call the "inside" color? the base?)

For my current S2000 my base coats are silver to give the blue on top of it a little metallic to it.

if you are doing a metal cast color, or a transparent, i woudl use a silver or gold base.

so you are wanting to do a blue or gunmetal color for your car? if you want a light metalic blue use silver or gold, dark blue use black, for gunmetal can go nay way

In general base coats are used under kandy paints as they are transparent. SOme opaque colors are affected by the color of the base coat , either making them lighter or darker.
Blue? Just a regular old blue or what, for Gunmetal I probably wouldn't bother as I aassume its a dark metallic color.
Unless your topcoat is a metallic paint to begin with just spraying a silver basecoat will not make it metallic looking unlees you are spraying a metallic silver followed by a translucent color

Yeah, gunmetal will basicly cover anything you paint it over, I wouldn't worry about it if you're painting with gun metal.
