Crate engines, are there any?

Does anyone know of anyone who sells either new, or very good rebuilt 4cyl. NON turbo and turbo engines? any sites? any Phone #s?

I think the only place I have seen doing full rebuilds is Paeco, and they do mostly performance engines.

Part Werks of Chicago might have something, they always have a bunch of stuff up on Ebay.

I think your best bet would be to get a rebuild kit online, and pay a mechanic to rebuild it for you. It's a simple engine, and it doesn't take long to rebuild, and it doesn't cost all that much for the rebuild kit.

Most people on the 924board.org who have rebuilt their engines have done it for less than $1000, those who did their own had the engine rebuilt completely for about $500-$600.

I will take your advice, and get the rebuild kit, but i will do the work with my dad.
I am not a master, but i do know a lot about engines, how they work, how some things have to be done with out breaking it.....Etc. What i dont know, or have the reources to do my dad does. plus we do halve a collection of good tools so i hope that it will be an experiance in saving money, and learning about my porsche.

The 924 engine is a really simple beast, it doesn't take long to rebuild it. The Haynes manual actually has everything you need, as far as procedure and specifications are concerned, and you won't need any special tools, most can be substituted easily.

Before tackling this, I would suggest you could and start a thread on the 924.org discussion board, so you can become more familiar with what you're going to have to deal with. You should also be able to find the best price on a rebuild kit through the members there.

thank you very much, i didn't want to have to sell the car just because the engine needed work. After all, how many people can say that their first ride was a porche..... for under $500.
