This thing is an EPA nightmare, but one kick ass ride too!

Notice the onboard air compressor with the hose reel? Fenders? Who needs em! This guy goes to the college engine class I go to and he drives this as his daily driver, to work and school, every day. It's a 96 and now has a 502, a Dana 60 front axle from a 70's Ford and has reservoir shocks in the rear with some crazy assed linkage suspension and hydraulic ram steering, not just normal power steering, ARB air locker in the front and a Detroit in the rear. What a beast!]

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Just_awesome-med.jpg

The first day he drove it he was amazed that he wasn't pulled over for no mudflaps! Now he has em...

Oh yeah... hey 2stroke! I don't think this guy agrees with the whole 'they shouldn't allow huge trucks on the road because they're too dangerous to people driving small cars' belief.... I don't know why I can tell he thinks that way! heheh :D

No actually, he owns his own business and makes pretty good money at it, he's got a lot of money into that truck. That truck would be ten colors of primer and run like shit if he were a real redneck. It can actually break the tires loose on pavement and he built it for off-roading, but just happens to drive it on the street too... He already put some pin stripes on the drivers side door with a rock, so it's not a pretty boy truck like most of the lifted ones people see are. This thing is all business!

lol! I'd have to put a bumper sticker on it denying that before I ever owned a truck that big! You can hear the thing coming from half a mile away. All he needs is a kegerator, he has the air system! Port-a-party here we come... :D

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/grinno.gifSomething tells me this guy also doesn't believe in brains.

heheh, maybe for morals, but not for ability, he built it himself! All the welding, plumbing, wiring, etc... The military might use trucks this well prepared for abuse!

Oh yeah! it has real hummer rims, with custom centers that'll fit those axles that are flame shaped! (actually I think that might be illegal, they are real bead-lock rims) I should've gotten a picture of those too. Maybe when I go to the class after spring break.

I don't get the whole - its to large because of people with small cars arguement (not that anyone here really uses that). Semis are dozens of times larger then that and I don't hear calls to get them off the road.

I'll see if he has any pics of when he gave the door a peck on the cheek with a boulder, that was probably a pretty good outing. I don't think he has many yet though, when he started driving it last week it was the first drive in a couple of weeks, apparently it wansn't nearly as modified before now, so we'll see what kind of fun he has over spring break in it, I have a feeling that's what he wanted to get it modified to this point in time for. I wish I'd taken more pictures dammit, the rear suspension was kick ass, he had the rear axle trussed up to the point where I doubt he can break it very easily and the pumpkin is surrounded by a piece of about 1/4-1/2 inch plate steel. Very nice. I told him he needs to camo it and put a machine-gun mount in the back with a de-milled .50 Browning on it. He said I wasn't the first to tell him that... :D

And I suppose that lambo in your sig gas mileage is just that much better? What is it like 15 mpg? Lambo's can be daily drivers too, and with trucks what ever you see a big truck getting somewhere there is a sports car getting worse mileage.

THIS is what you call redneck. btw, notice that the roll cage on teh toyota is also a snorkel... that's actually kidna cool. the firebird is about 20 min from my neighborhood, it has 44s. the toyota is a friend of mines... it's one of his 3 4x4 toyotas. that one only has 35s, but it has a duel transfer case set up, solid axle conversion, rear disc brakes from a supra, brake bias controller, rancho 9000 shocks, electronic E brake lock for rock crawls. final gear ratio is a little over 250:1 in 4wd low... it's quite a beast.

Geez... that looks just like my friend Kevins old Toyota. It's even the same color! His had a bed though, (sort of). Those toyotas are pretty bashable, I saw Kevin clear a Joshua tree, (in height, he didn't actually jump one), in a stock toyota. It didn't do any serious damage, (that we know of).

It's 'cool' and everything, in a boys and their toys sort of way, but what happens to the other car in the event of a head-on collision? Shouldnt be road legal.

So just because a truck is big, it shouldnt be road legal? Because it can cause some damage in the event of a headon collision? Well, it was mentioned before, but what about semi's? Theyre twice as big as that, plus a trailer! Do they have to be removed too? Or how bout all those sports cars that can go 200+ mph, im sure if they got into an accident at speed it wouldnt be pretty either...In fact, why not just take all cars and trucks off the road just because they cause damage in a head on collision?

That just doesnt make since to me...an accident is going to cause damage no matter what cars/trucks are involved...

My two cents...

Aruba27
04-05-2004, 10:18 PM
yeah, we've bashed that truck pretty nicely. It was originally a brown color, and had a bed as well. we just took some spraypaint and cut off the bed. yeah, that thing is a beast, it has a really beefy front bumper that doubles as an air tank. We've taken out some small trees in that thing, about 3 inches wide. it's nice being able to make your own trail :iceslolan . what's real crazy is that it has its orignal engine, 22RET, yeah, really rare turbo 4 banger.

Yes, an accident is going to cause damage, but because of its size, this thing is going to cause more damage than pretty much any other 'car' on the road. A supercar wouldn't trample another car in an accident. This on the other hand...

then explain me this: Why is the point of crumple zones, air bags, and seatbelts? When one of those lifted trucks will overide all of them and kill the passangers of most regular cars on the road.

And take a look at semis their bumpers do not overide yours plus in the back they have a bar that has the same purpose. And semis are vital to the economy they are neccesary. Add to that the fact that most semi drivers are courteous and profesional and I have no problem with them.

Maybe small cars that are harder to see in blind spots and get annoying while clogging up suspension parts with their mangled wrecks should be outlawed instead... there are two viewpoints to this you know. I don't give a shit what someone drives, just so long as they don't hit me with it.

Might wanna correct that:

A. Something that won't fall apart. (no late 80s or newer V-dubs).
B. Something that can haul 5 kids and all groceries 'comfortably'.
C. Something other than a bitch car.

They can be tricked out to look pretty kick ass and they're much more comfortable than most cars. No matter what you do to them, the newer VW's, are bitch cars. Yep.
People think theyre safer for their family and stuff not realising they roll over like a 2 dollar whore on the first poorly-cambered corner (and theres no shortange of them in this country...)

One of my dad's (kinda)friends here, has a 96' (i think) Toyota Landcruiser VX Ltd. The thing has underbody NEONS (blue), concealed police sirens behind the grille, strobe lights inside the headlights, air horns, loudspeaker...it's really quite something. hes not a cop, he just put all the shit on his car  Needless to say its never been on any surface rougher than gravel. Anyways, I get annoyed when I see pretty boys driving around big lifted trucks that are all shiny and never have a spot of mud on them, but if they wanna drive it, more power to them. Where's the limit on what the government would say you can't drive? You willing to pay the tax dollars and go through the legal bullshit to make sure that everyone buying one of these things is buying it for a legit business purpose? Yeah right...

BTW, I will post new pics of that beast on Wed. night or Thursday. It has gotten even meaner and uglier. Over spring break he 'finished' the roll cage, (for now), it now extends completely over the roof, down the sides of the cab and over the front fenders all the way to the front grille guard, (all in the same olive drab as the rest of course... :D) I nearly shit myself when it wheeled around the corner today. It's just so fucking mean looking... and acting. Apparently he took it wheeling sometime last week too, he said he'll have some pictures pretty soon and I'll post them here when I can.

I wish I had the equipment to do all of that shit to my cruiser myself... :(

Front view of it, the guy who built it is standing to the right.

Part of that Hydraulic ram for power steering, very nice, also the Dana 60 swapped under the front in place of the IFS.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Steering1-med.jpg

A downview of the engine front, I was trying to get the performance pump down beolow, but just got a shot of random stuff in it and the original power steering pump. Awesome still.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Second_power_steering_pump1-med.jpg

What the original steering pump is now used for, it powers the fully hydraulic assist brake system. This is the master cylinder for it.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Hydro_brakes1-med.jpg

The remote oil filter, (kinda buried in there), which is just for the steering and brake pumps.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Oil_filter_for_pumps1-med.jpg

He hasn't done the back ones yet, but he cut the new sipes in these super swampers himself, then rebalanced the tires. Pretty kick ass huh?

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Siping1-med.jpg

The rims I was talking about! The flame centers are just one of those little things you notice...

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Hub_centers1-med.jpg

That rear axle is trussed up big time, I don't think it'll break any time soon...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/87538Axle_trussing1-med.jpg

and yes, it is a 4-link suspension in the rear. I could only dream of having this truck...

http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/875384_link_suspension1-med.jpg
