Remove air silencer

I have heard that removing the air silencer improves the performance, but I don't know how to find it. If anyone has any info on it that would be great.

It's the big black box that is the air intake. There is a hose going from the throttle body to a big black box, and you can remove that box and put a cone filter therre if you want. It won't help hp much, maybe 1 or 2 at most.
