Hi,

I will appreciate it greatly to have some sort of idea of whats wrong with my car before I bring it to the repair shop and possibly spend a few hundred bucks unnessecarily. The only reason I'm fixing it is because I need it for a long trip and I want to make sure it is not going to break and leave me in the middle of no where. The car is an '94 grand am se with 75,000 miles, auto transmission. The problem is that when rolling or going at low speeds the car will jerk back and forth. This problem does not occur while rolling when reverssing. Any insight will be greatly appreciated ,thanks!

I had a jerking problem with my 93 grand am.. but not like yours. Mine would jerk horrible after i came to a stop, and started to accellerate... i fixed this by cleaning off the Mass Airflow Censor.. if you think this is anyway related to your problem, let me know and i'll tell you how to do it, its very simple.

the MAF is a right behind the throttle body, held on by 3 small screws, take out the screws and carefully pull the MAF out, there are 2 filaments on the end of it. Spray it down with throttle body cleaner and carefully clean it with a q-tip or soft brush, once its silver and clean again, put it back together and run the car for a few minutes to reset the computer. It may run rough for a few minutes but it will smooth out.
