Thanks! for your help guys!..I've gone to a couple of car audio sales sites and got different answers..there is apparentlly confusion over sedan,h/b and wagon. Some sites don't differentiate. Some say 6 3/4 up front..BUT they mean 6 1/2 oversize..other sites say they are 6 3/4 BUT 6 1/2 oversize MAY fit. Some sites for the rear say 6 1/2 others 5x7.Then again other sites simply offer replacement speakers ONLY by the size you are taking out..DUH..This to me doesn't seem complicated. This is an Escort.Plenty of sites do NOT have replacements?HUNH?..or front but not rear etc.,.I'dno..someone MUST actually know..if worse comes to worse guess I'll go to the bone yard..pull a few and match them up.Not sure if I go to the trouble of pulling the grilles whether this will help me..(Been there done that)..UNLESS I yank the speakers out..I'm NOT going to go through that!!.There are plenty of these in the bone yards.Actually come to think of it..NOW..the answer is probablly in a Hollander or Mitchell interchange manual.Libraries here have them..

I have some sony Xplod 6.5" speakers in the front doors of my wagon, and they fit behind the door grille just fine..... I drilled 4 holes and used sheetmetal screws to mount the speakers, but they work beautifully. Ford uses those crazy 3-hole mounting designs stock.
any 6.5" speaker should work fine in your front doors, provided the magnet doesn't go so deep as to block the window rolling down.
for the rears in the wagon, I've actually seen 6x9 Jensen speakers in a tracer wagon, and I was planning on some 6x9 eclipses in my wagon, but I haven't really got around to installing them yet.... It will require some modification of the rear speaker grille to make 6x9's work. as in, you have to surface mount the speaker, not flush-mount it under the grille. There are also some 5x7 speakers made by a lot of places that will work just fine, or you could also just use some 6" or 6.5" round ones and modify the grille to mount them, too.
Remember, it's not required that you must always use the stock holes for mounting screws... use your creativity and imagination, and come up with a kick-ass low-budget solution.

Hey THANKS! man..just what I was looking for..I was actually in Wally yesterday and saw some 6.5 Xplods..and they looked identical to the Wally's replacement for this car.Ya the magnet thing clearing the window..been there.I don't care about a few holes being drilled..or SLIGHT modifying..BUT I just don't wanna turn this into a BIG project where I end up breaking out the Sawzall..to slice through the door sheet metal..and maybe the support..THEN having the grille/panel just about impossible to get back on..been there too. Thanks again bro..Arnold..
