Overloaded MAS??

Whenever I take my 94 GT out to the races and race it a few races back to back it doesn't want to idle. It would run fine but when it comes time for it to idle it'll bog once then die. I took the silencer off of my intake so that's the only thing I figure would cause it but I did that like the day after I got the car so I can't point to it for sure. Is it possible to overload the MAS? I thought it would just be trying to suck so much air while racing that then it wouldn't put enough in the engine to keep it at idle. Anyone else have this problem or know of what might be causing it?

Is your car stock or has there been any mods done? Also when you took the MAF sensor out, what did you do to it exactly? You could have possible damaged it. It could also need cleaning. There's many possibilities running though my head right now, can you give a little more detail about your car, about work done to, or what not.

Sounds like a bad IAC.... IAC's can cause all sorts of idle problems at all sorts of inconsistent times.

Yeah, I was also thinking TPS.

no everything is stock on it. I didn't take off the MAS I just took the silencer off (the little rubber nose sticking into the fenderwell) so it could suck more air. I talked to one of my friend's today and he said the IAC too. I don't know anything about the IAC so is it something I can fix on my own? Everything is stock besides the K&N Air Filter, X-pipe and 40 series flowmasters.

I'm wondering if the oil from the K&N has gotten on the filaments of the MAF sensor, causing inaccurate readings. when was that installed, and did the problem start after you removed the silencer?

well, I couldn't tell you if it's b/c I removed the silencer b/c I took that off probably less than a week after I got the car (June 03). The K&N was put in at the same time I removed the silencer. I'm going to race it tonight, I'll see if it does it some more, maybe I'll try removing the air filter or something.

I'm pretty sure now that oil from the filter has gotten on the filaments of the MAF sensor. You can clean this with a little rubbing alcohol or electronic parts cleaner (something that doesn't leave a residue) on a q-tip. Just be very gentle, because the filaments are very delicate.

Don't forget to reset the computer after, so your car can relearn how to idle properly.
