Hi everyone, I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and it is always a little hard to start. It is a 4.0 with 160k miles. Runs good besides a little miss. I changed wires, cap roter, plugs, fuel filter. It just has to turn over about 6-7 times or so before it starts. It starts a little easier after it is warm but not much. I have tried cycling the key swith off and on a few times to rule out a fuel pressure problem and it does not make a difference. Like I said besides the little miss every now and then it runs pretty good. However I have noticed that when I push it to the floor sometimes it pauses or bogs down a little and then it kicks in and has plenty of power to pass. It does not do this all the time but has done it a few times in the past 3 weeks or so.
Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

PS I love this forum and what it does for us all. I live in South Florida in Okeechobee and would love to get together with others who also have jeeps and like to go out in the woods 4 wheeling. It's just a heck of a lot of fun. I have a good time with my jeep so far I have pulled much bigger 4 wheel drive trucks out of the mud and water on numerous occasions!
Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak somewhere. That would be a place to start.

I have been checking the vaccuum lines and so far I have not found any leaks.

YOU CAN HAVE ENOUGH PRESSURE TO RUN AT A STEADY RATE OF SPEED BECAUSE IT ISN'T MAKING ANY HIGH DEMAND ON THE FUEL SYSTEM. MY CHEROKEE HAD 30 LBS. AT A IDLE IF I PUNCHED IT SITTING STILL IT DROPPED TO 18 LBS. & COMPLETELY BOGGED OUT TILL I LET OFF THE GAS. SAME WHEN KICKING INTO PASSING GEAR ON THE ROAD. HAVE PRESSURE CHECKED WITH PRESSURE GAUGE. DALE

We just purchased a 1990 Jeep Cherokee with 183,000 miles. Man trans and straight 6 4L engine. It will start and die, start and die, several times before running. Now and then it will just start and run. Fuel pump sounds like it is running when key is turned on or completely off and then on again.
When we bought it, the bracket or frame that engine mount bolts to had 3 of the 3 bolts that attach it to engine block broken. Got that fixed yesterday and now it will shift into reverse and 5th. Previous owners and dealer thought transmission was problem. Engine had tipped to passenger side. Anybody interested in one way to get broken bolts out of block let me know. Not much space and took me awhile. I may jpost photos and info on a new section of my blog site, but too tired for that tonight. Just found this forum. Looks interesting.
