I have a 96 Dodge Ram and thinking about getting one of those SPEED CHIPS that increase +20 hp. Is it worth it? Has anyone actually try it out? If it does WORK where is the IAT SENSOR located at? and is it easy to install?

I felt like I should answer since nobody else has.
I don't know anything about these things. I would say it's worth a try. If you don't like it, sell it.

I ask someone I work with and he said its not worth it, waste of time and money. Plus if it does really increase HP everyone well be doing it. Unlesss any of ya have any other suggestions.

who ever thinks a chip gives you 20 hp is stupid.

It does something in the computer that lets it do something for the motor. It makes sense.
In the new diesel engines, if you're going down the road and something doesn't seem right, just call the engine manufacturer on the phone and they will connect with the engine by satellite and find out what the problem is. Depending on the problem, they can fix it when you're going down the road, or at least find out what the problem is, so you'll know.
I'd believe a chip could get you 20 more horsepower. The whole engine is run and regulated by computers anyways. It just makes sense.

I belive it uncovers power thats already there. It makes the truck think different.

Yeah it makes the truck think that its carring a heavier load which in return gives more engine output (hp). Ok lets say it works, now where is the IAT sensor located on a 96 Dodge ram ??
But still any other suggestions or comments ?

I agree with state69champ.
Apparently it's supposed to be on part of that wiring harness under the hood just in front of the cowl. If you buy the chip it should have schematics included, and if not, the dealer you purchase it from should be able to give you some insight, or they'll try to soak you for the installation of that same chip.

It's not a chip on a Dodge. Hypertech sells a programer with it you get more HP and torque how this happens is it changes the air/fuel mixture and the timing. You can do away with the rev limiter and top speed limiter but it cost about $400. and it only works on your truck so you can't sell it

look, it's as easy as this:
put a 100K ohm 1/2 watt resistor (radio shack or a tv store) across the terminals of the air temp sensor in the air intake.
Yes it does increase the Air/fuel ratio and makes the computer think you have too much (cold) air.
Warning:
If you live in a colder climate (less than 30 deg F all winter) or have a high altitude mod. don't do it.

So has any one tried this yet. Was just curious. I am looking for more torque. just had a 3" exaust installed now going to add a K&N intake system this weekend. But I think that will not give me much lowend just highend.
Let me know if any one has tried the resister mod or what have you. I've see lots of them on ebay.

i wouldnt recommend it. I tried it on my grandam and it threw an engine code and had to rewire the IAT. Waste of money, buy something that will actually work.

The IAT sensor is located at the rear of the intake manifold. The lower end protrudes into the intake airstream. It provides an input voltage to the ECM in proportion to the temperature of the intake air.The ECM uses this voltage input along with inputs from other sensors to make decisions regarding engine protection, fuel control and fuel timing.

as in performance chips? ive got the mopar PCM, worth every penny if you ask me.

What kinda gain should I expect for that chip. I am looking to get a chip becasue the exaust and intake seem to only improve top end I want to look at a little more on the low end w/o a massive sacarafice in fuel as I seem to only get about 14MPG and that is with a 3.9 V6
Did you notice a diffrence with the new PCM installed I was doing some research looks good however I was more concrened about some comments where folks say you must use 97 octain fuel and well dont tow anything etc. If opions and or links to this product would be great thanks again.
