difference?
almost a second in the 1/4 mile...
the new ones are mid 16's, the old ones are mid 15's.
suspension.
control arms for the 99-00, macpherson struts for the 02.
better handling in the 00. the new ones can, and do handle, but there is far more support and research in the older models.
the basic setup from 88-00 is the same for the civic, so imagine how much support there is for that...
more support for the b16, the new engine is still building an aftermarket.
vtec is not intelligent, i-vtec is.
i'm sure honda's site explains it, or the people in the civic forum can...
maybe www.howstuffworks.com can give a definition as well...

well flylwsi explained the technical part. But i personally cannot get over the egg shape that the new model got while the old ones were quite good looking.

I think the old ones looked pretty plain, the new ones look like MPV's :disappoin:

looks like a small honda insight(minivan)
i have a friend with an 02 SI and he says that the i-vtec won't engage after a certain speed(like 85+ mph i think) as a safety feature thereby limiting it's performance.

the main reason why the new Si sucks soo bad is
1) the weight, it weights 300lbs more then the older model
2) the wheels and tires, all the newer cars comes with 17 inch rims, while the Si still uses 16 inch rims with shitty ass tires. this hurt the braking and cornering ability of the car significantly.
3) the shocks are waaaay too soft.

stock si's look like crap. but i've seen some awesome looking modified ones. lower the car, put some larger wheels and a SIMPLE body kit, then the si becomes a great looking car. i can't believe i'd ever say i'd get a civic, but if i had to choose, i'd choose the older si over the new ones.

i highly doubt that the ivtec doesn't engage over 85mph...
and honestly, it's an intelligent system, working all the time, not just at a designated point.

I like the 2000 Si better. If only the 2000 Si had a K20 in it.

if only the 02 si had the type r (type s rsx) motor in it...
it wouldn't be such a dog.

Yeah, but I still dont like the fact that its 200-300 pounds heavier than other civics. I like the way the 6th gen type-R looked like better. The one that looks like Ricochets hatch.

Isn't the RSX type S the GSR, because I heard there is a Type R in Japan and Europe but it wont make it to the states. It supposedly has 220HP.
