My air bag light has started to come on when I start the truck in the mornings. Sometimes it will go off after about 10 minutes or so and the other times it keeps going on and off or satys on all the time. Help...Any ideas??

I have the same air bag light symptoms on a '98 - was this ever resolved. This vehicle also has the seemingly somewhat common occassional stall (sometimes multiple times in the same trip and sometimes will go for weeks without a stall - always starts right back up after stall). Could the two issues be related? Thanks.

Never resolved mine. I have the same stalling symptoms as well. Might be related. If you figure this out please let me know. I am stumped. Thanks.

TopTenBlue,
After researching this forum, it seems that replacing the ignition switch is the most common resolution to fixing the stalling problem. Have you replaced your ignition switch? I'm planning on replacing mine soon.

First you need to do some diagnosis.
If the SIR light comes on, then most likely there is a DTC stored in the SDM that will aid with diagnosis of the AIR BAG fault.
As far as the stall problem, when does this happen? What do you notice, is it intermittant or can you predict when the stall will happen?

Thanks for the reply GMMerlin. This is my wife's vehicle and she tells me that the only thing she notices when a stall occurs is that the battery light comes on. There is no predicting when the stall is going to happen (it has happened in stop-and-go traffic as well as while driving at interstate speeds), just dies completely and she coasts to the side of the road and stops, then she starts it right back up again with no trouble. It hasn't happened for a couple of weeks now. As a side note, this happened to me once while I was driving it about three years ago - I didn't think much about it at the time because it started right back up and hadn't happened again until about a month ago, when it started stalling intermittently for about a two week period. Thanks.

Sounds exactly like my problem. No rhyme or reason. Seems to stall sometimes when breaking or turning hard. But it will also stall doing 65 down the interstate going staright. Tried cleaning out the iginiton switch but no luck yet. Am I on the right track?? And is the air bag light related or its own problem??

glad to know I'm not the only one with a possessed air bag light. I know it's not related to ignition/stalling. The darn thing just comes on when it feels like it for about 10-20 seconds then goes out. Doesn't happen every day. Has anyone resolved their air bag light problem??

I have the airbag light problem as well (no stalling, though) on my 98 Blazer. It comes on for awhile and goes off on its own (no code stored), and it usually goes off if I lock the power doors or unlock them, making me think it's electrical somehow like a loose connector.

Nope. I've been driving around for a year now with mine coming on and going off. It seems to be on more and more now, so I'm thinking of taking it in to the shop. I always do my own maintenance and repairs, but I know diddly about airbag systems, and I don't want to get my face caved in while working on it. :icon16:
I was going to replace the DERM to see if that did it (that's what I've heard causes this problem), but I can't find one anywhere online or at parts stores. Looks like the dealer is the last resort for me. At least it'll be cheaper than buying a new truck (I hope).

I had the same problem a while back and someone on this forum said that they traced it down to a bad ground by the drivers seatbelt. I tried that and haven't seen the light on since. It may or may not work for you.
