krylon fusion problem

I have painted the trim in my car with krylon fusion following the manfac. spects I washed them down with an amonia wash 50/50 water
and i get small places that the paint dose not stick to is there something elts i can do ? do i have to strip the paint that i have on allready off?

Are the places its not sticking plastic?

yes all are plastic it sticks in some spots and others it won't on the same pice I think my problem may be old armorall but not shure I thought the amonia would work like the can said but after several washings with it 50/50 and all twice 100% amonia i have still had no luck

Try using a primer like adhesion promotor by duplicolor under your paint

p.s.
lightly sand before you primer.

i will try thatalthough i have put most of the car back together. krylon fusion is "supose to" need no pr :lol2: ep or primer :lol: ya right

I have actually used the Krylon Fusion in my Eclipse GS on my plastic parts, and it hasnt done anything like that to me! I used no primer, and i didnt even use amonia to clean it! Also, i did use a paint brush to paint it by spraying a little into an old baby food lid and then got it onto the brush and painted what i wanted... that actually worked very very well, and it looks really good right now! I am planning on doing more this summer with the Krylon, b/c im changing my entire interior from tan to black and green... so i have a lot of work ahead of me, but im gonna do it! krylon fusion contains methylene chloride, which bonds directly to certain plastics that are solvent bondable. If the material is nylon then the fusion doesn't work, if the material is previously painted then then there is a barrier between the plastic and the new paint and will not work properly.

steel wool everything before you paint

A real good solvent ya might try is MEK (meythl ethyl keatone)sp?

I used the krylon fusion also, its good in most places, sometimes (rarely) it wont stick as good as you want it too. Here is what I did to get it to stick good. Everything must be really clean...first sand the plastics with a 300 to 600 grit sandpaper...next use rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth to wipe the parts off...keep using the alcohol on the cloth until you see no more dirt (or residue from the sanding) coming off on the towel...let it dry...then paint away...

The biggest problem with painting plastic is the build of dressings (armor all and such). Those products...espcially silicone will not allow the paint to stick. If you have already painted the part and the paint is coming off in spots...the new paint will not stick to those spots either. Unless you give them an through cleaning. I recommend the dish washer if the parts will fit. The parts will come out like brand new and clean of any dressings. Bryan is correct...Fusion is designed to go directly onto the plastic and no primer. Remember your finish underneath is what is going to determine how good your finish on top is. Anything I paint the final coat of primer gets wet sanded with 600 then base coats.

Sanding will definitely help, i use rubbing alcohol to clean the parts after sanding because degreasers leave a film that is hard to get off and the paint wont stick to it...

after u sand it with the 600 grit, u should wash them again right? then after that u should apply the paint coats, but one thing though, once u apply the paint, if its krylon, does it need a primer?

i used krylon fusion to paint my door panels and it looks good but its still tacky and its been about 36hrs the only thing the weather is crappy but all the other parts i paint are dry can someone help

i recently painted my door arm rests on a wet day... never again will i do such a thing, didnt dry and i grabbed onto it after about a day and a half and ooh my....had to start again
