Clutch cable madness

my '86 notch, which i just swapped a T-5 into from the stock 4-speed, is acting up. i got the clutch cable all hooked up and pulled back on the pedal. it went bang and reset itself. however, i now notice that the clutch cable is still badly adjusted. i have to literally press the pedal all the way to the floor to shift, it engages completely before it's all the way up, and it engages within the first inch or pedal travel. obviously this is not cool. what additional steps do i have to take to properly adjust the pedal? thanks.

and as an aside, who sells a kit to convert a stang to a hydraulic clutch?

Did you put a aftermarket clutch quadrant and cable in or are they factory stuff? The end of the cable, where it conects to the pivot arm, should be threaded for making adjustments. If you have that already, is the cable new or used? Is the pivot arm possibly bent? Is the pressure plate in good shape? I don't know what kind of throwout bearing you're using, but I'd stay away from the cheap ones from the discount parts stores. The Ford bearing always worked best for me. The others always deleveloped a pop because they weren't engaging the pressure plate correctly.

i didn't know about the threaded end, i'll check that out.

maybe i should just leave it where it is... the pedal will sit about 2" above the brake pedal, and that's not cool for me for a variety of reasons.

i should really get the clutch pedal height adjuster from MM. by the way, does that kit work with a hyd. clutch?

I'm not sure what kits are out there for converting cable opperated clutches to hydraulic. What I'm doing on my 69 isn't part of a kit. I bought the needed parts separately. Wilwood makes a generic pedal with a master cylinder attached. Thats what I have for a pedal. My floor will need cut and some mounts will need to be made, I'm sure of that. Good luck on the project. i just installed a hydralic clutch in my 66 stang and its the best thang that i have done to it,other that slap a 5.0 in it, you can get a kit from alot of companys but i got mine from autoworks.com, or mustangplus.com
