'fast' blinking turn signal

Greetings All...

The right turn signal in the cab of my '96 Silverado blinks 'fast' along with the front right blinker on the outiside. However, the rear right turn signal does not work at all. I have replaced the bulb in the right rear tail-light as well as the combination flasher under the dash. The tail-light works now but the rear turn signal does not. The turn signal inside and the front right blinker still blink 'fast'.

Any ideas what the cause is and how to fix it without going to a garage or dealer?

Im no electrical expert but I had a "fast blinking" problem on one of my vehicles and I found I had put in a 6 volt bulb in the socket instead of a 12 volt bulb. As for why the rear turn signal doesn't work I have no idea. I'm sure someone here has an idea. Have you checked the voltage to make sure you have current going to the rear turn signal ? In my past experiences, if a bulb is burned out then NO BLINKING occurs at all on that side of the car. Maybe the wire is bad. Maybe a trailer lights conveinence plug was added at sometime and the connection has been lost. Looks like its time to go buy a 10 dollar dc electrical meter at radio shack and start tracking backwards.
Just my 2 cents worth. Im an AC electrician not a DC electrician so Im just using edjucated guesses here.

your rear signal light bulb is hooped, put in a new one, and drive away smiling.
The fast blink is a method to warn the driver that something is wrong with the bulbs or circuit.

There is a problem with the circuit board that everything plugs in to. The bulbs being replaced already would indicate this is your problem. Maybe you can swap left and right light asm and try to confirm. eBay has some usually for sale or the dealer / parts store. :2cents:

I'm thinking your referring to the curcuit board thats inside the light itself? Salvage yards also will sell this part for really cheap most of the time. I sold some I had acquired off a half-burned 97 Z71 for like $10 a piece.

The reason your front signal is flashing fast IS because your rear signal is not working. Whether it's your bulb, bulb assembly or wiring, without the resistance of that bulb in the circuit your parallel bulb will flash fast.

here's a quick test. remove both tail light assembly's and swap them. if the problem moves to the other side replace the socket assembly. very common problem for chevy's

I had this problem and what I found was that the rear blinker bulb was installed wrong. The rear taillight assy heated up and messed up the guide for the pins on the bulb causing the bulb to be installed wrong. If this is the case, the taillight with the problem will burn very bright and the turn signal will not work.

Don't forget to check you grounds. You may have a short somewhere along the way before it even reaches the tail assembly. Or perhaps the ground for the tail light is dirty.
Just a thought.

I GUARANTEE that this is a problem with the circuit board in the tail light. GUARANTEE. I have had this problem several times, these circuit boards, can be bought anywhere you can get autoparts. They fit 88-98 C/K trucks. Have FUN!

I hade the same problem on my truck and it was a poor connection from the tailight to the harness. If you replaced the bulb it is either the connection at the plug or the bulb in the rear light. I also had it happen on the front and it was because the bulb was wasn't making a good connection in the harness. I suggest doing what the other posters said and switch the lights from left to right to see if the problem follows the light or the plug.



I just realized I said that it was the connection or bulb when I meant to say it was the connection or the light itself.

Having just replaced my rear drivers side blinker bulb, I found the replacement bulb I bought at Wal-Mart did not make contact when plugged in. I had to bend out the connector wires on the bulb so they would make contact. After that it worked fine.
