What does a throttle-body spacer do? I read in my Summit Racing catalogue that it increases air flow, but how does it do that? Also, would it be worth it to get one for my car? Thanks guys.

TB spacers work by increasing the lenght of tubing that air has to travel before it reaches the valves. this changes the flow characteristics of the air, and can affect the quality of your AF mixture. too much space or too little can cause your car to run like shit, whereas the right amount will net you minor performance gains. some even have rifled grooves that cause the air to swirl to a limited extent, further enhancing AF mixture.
my buddy put 2 car spacers oh his Camaro as a hack job to get it running so he could set the timing. the car would not idle and fired poorly above idle.
if you do your research you can get great results, but if you dont' you could end up with an undrivable car.

Hmmm.....is there a way to know if it will negatively effect your car without having to buy it and finding out that your car runs like shit? lol

there's bound to be somebody in the Nissan general forum, if not in the Maxima-specific one, who knows the rule of thumb regarding this. i'd say that's your first step. you can also talk to local engine builders and get opinions. also, the manufacturer of the plate you're looking at probably has either numbers or accounts from people who've walked the path you're looking down.

Thanks, one more thing. The throttle body spacer goes in between the throttle body and the intake manifold, correct?
