Hey I have been lookin around for parts for the MX-3... I own one and been lookin for parts.. so far I've found the bodykit I want and tail lights... but I still need some headlights besides the stock ones.. right now I am running cyber white bulbs in it.. but I am wondering if anyone has seen any....

I've never seen any aftermarket headlights. I looked everywhere for them when I first got my car. The only options I could find were, either get the black headlight covers, or clean up the stock ones. I just used 2000 grit sand paper and wet sanded the headlights. Then used the complete Meguiar's (i think that's how you spell it) wax treatment, the carnouba wax, and crystal polish, and all that other stuff.

does anyone know if this deal has gone through yet? Cause I'm kinda anxious, and ready to spend the money I had set aside for this on an exhaust system.

^ Those look freakin sweet :sunglasse : I wonder what model Civic he got it from? it looked like all the modding was done to the frame itself, not to the body...

Thanx Eric, so what ya'll think? it adds a sleeker look to the car than the Civic headlights, and Miatas have projecters and such too such as http://www.miata.org/cmt/uploadedfiles/543.jpg

this is probably the mod I'll do for mine... just to figure out the best way to do it.. lol

I think I like the civic projectors better.....but the fact that they are for a civic kinda bugs me! Cause....honda= :loser:

I don't like the projectors with that trim....I think it makes the car look too much like a toy! But, thats just my opinion.
The ones on the yellow MX are pretty tight! They look kinda foggy though. Looks like he used his original head light cover and just added a projector unit.

bmwm3guy

thats bcuz the one on the yellow one, arrent projectors... theyre the stock headlights of a Miata

lone_night_fox
06-03-2004, 08:29 AM
Also the front clip on the pic on my post is a Miata, not a MX-3 the point was the lights, not the car itself. but they have the "Civic" style projecters too, haven't found them yet but I've seen them

firefly948
06-03-2004, 01:55 PM
I meant I don't like the lights with the molding or whatever that is on them. I like having the lense cover, and the lights inside of a housing

lone_night_fox
06-04-2004, 08:00 AM
oh.... :P well they do have Miata Projecters with the Projecters inside the housing too...

firefly948

I've been looking into the civic projectors for my car. It looks like a good option if you want projectors.

lone_night_fox
07-23-2004, 09:56 AM
have you seen the Headlights on the new Miata? they have the kind of lights you want (with the lense cover) yep... that's all.

firefly948
07-23-2004, 11:41 AM
no i haven't...I do like what they are doing with the new Miata though. It kinda bugs me that it only has like 178hp. I'd expect more from mazdaspeed

mx3man
07-23-2004, 12:32 PM
178hp is such a small car would be enough fun for me. You could spank civics and maybe a few 'ludes too.

firefly948
07-23-2004, 06:44 PM
yeah, it is a good amount, but for a turbo charged car from a special vehicle division, i'd expect more like 250. plus, i think the 1/4 mile time on the Mazdaspeed miata is only like 15 or something. sure that's fast enough to take out civics and preludes, but not fast enough to take out alot of the other special vehicle team cars

Vanished
07-23-2004, 06:49 PM
agreed

lone_night_fox
07-25-2004, 01:31 PM
but that weak HP rating is because of the lack of weight in the Miata... also it's probably set for drift.. and a Corolla GTS (AE86) can out run and perform 400hp RX-7's with only 200hp and the Miata is lighter than the Corolla... so less HP is need. also if you had 250+hp it would be really hard to hook up... espicially for the day to day driver.

Vanished
07-26-2004, 02:27 PM
just a question, what is the equivelent of a 200hp mx-3? Like an rx-7 with ___hp or a supra with ____hp...

babybluemx3
07-26-2004, 02:44 PM
you would have to be more precise..wich supra wich rx7...but I'll give you an idea

1995 supra non turbo needs 280hp to equal a mx3 ZE
1995 rx7 turbo needs 250hp

both will do the 1/4 mile in 14.5 if they have the hp mentioned...this is according to a unprecise horsepower calculator...

it's all in the weight..

supra with a driver weight 3400lbs
rx7 3000lbs
mx3 2600 (well...mine)

right thanks, thats exactly what i wanted to know! Just a ballpark is good for me...oh and about the mazdaspeed miata, the reason behind the 178hp is because they wanted linear power, not a huge jump sudenly. THe turbo charger is stardard bearing rather than ballbearing because the power would kcick in too fast in the low end and be almost a spike on the dyno. A bigger turbo would have barely any power at low rpms but lots at the top. They wanted an all around car street car, although i'm sure many people would not care about the linear and would kill for big hp at big rmps. Just thought id clear that up quick.

lone_night_fox
08-01-2004, 09:46 PM
that was my other guess... mainly because the mazdaspeed Protece is the same way... (don't think I spelled the car right) but ya'll know what I mean...

Vanished
08-08-2004, 05:14 PM
oh yah babyblue, just a thought you should try and make a list of a bunch of cars and HP equal to a stock KLZE. It'd be kinda cool to know what kinda cars you are kinda equal to.

Going to Custom Fabricate Pop-up headlights for the MX-3...

mx3man
08-10-2004, 08:16 AM
whyy??? fawk those pop-up headlights are nasty.. i guess to each his own, but still... they're so narsty

lone_night_fox
08-10-2004, 08:53 AM
It depends on the car... but all the high performance cars I like have them... RX-7 (FC &FD) F40 Ferrari, 328 Ferrari, 288GTO Ferrari, Honda/Acura NSX (1st Gen) MR2, 240SX... there are many others.. but it's something I've always liked... basically when I do the mod it'll make the MX-3 Front end look more like a FC/MR2 Frontend, give or take. besides it's something no one else has done... that makes it more special... but ya Cat eyes (pop-up headlights) aren't for everyone. it's just what I like... also on a side not Cat Eyes don't fog as bad as fixcated headlights... and I like being able to hide your headlights durring the day.. it makes the car look that much cooler to me.. :naughty:

Does anyone know honestly why the mx-3 headlights always fog up? Because if i spray it down with water, it clears up, but in a mather of seconds, the fog comes back... is the answer new headlight covers?

lone_night_fox
08-10-2004, 08:36 PM
all constantly exposed plastic headlights do. this is beacuse of the sun's rays baking the plastic. a dirty car's paint can look clean in the rain... so why not plasic parts too? putting tire wet will also fix the fog. that's what I do on Cruze night.

So how do you plan to do the conversion? Get a step by step up when ur done.

Well here is an update... I've done some measuring of headlights... the MR2 (1st gen), AE92 Corolla coupe, are all too long. after measuring the usable space for the headlights there are only around 8in from the back of the headlight cavity to around the front bumper.(give or take... the best option for doing this is the 88-89 Accord Hatchback, or the 85-87 Prelude, or 86-89 Accord coupe/sedan... these are the specs ( at their widest part they are 9-9.5in, the top length is 6.5-6.75in, the headlight side height is around 7.5in, and the engine side is 7.25-7.5in in size.. those will be the best bet. fitting the engines for the headlights will not be a problem becaues of all the space available behind, and under the frame. just hooking them up will be a little tricky. probably just hook them up to a toggle switch. anyways ... you'll have to add some to the fenders or make measurements for singals which it's possibible to mod the Honda signals (models listed above) well should mostly fit. and the hood will need to be cut back a tad, so you have a good fit... well that's my research...
