Possible crankcase problem?

I have a question about a 1997 Toyota Rav4. When my wife had it serviced, today, the techs showed her some orange, gritty residue on the dipstick. The drained oil was normal in all ways. including color. The oil being used in this vehicle is Valvoline SynPower, 10W30. Any ideas, as to what may be going on, here? Thanks!
