how much hp could a stock t-56 handle?im not to familar with the t-56s im lookin to put one in my 3rd gen with my 383 stroker, with 500+ hp, thanks

easily 600 I would think. I mean if they handle 350 from a stock engine then I wouldn't put 600 past it.

yea i would also like it to last, right off the bat ill prolly put a high performace clutch and a new throw out bearing jus to be on the safe side

well isnt the t-56 also in dodge vipers? theyre putting out 500 hp stock, so im sure the it can handle much more than that

It's all about how it was built. The T56 in the Viper isn't the same one in the Camaros, not exactly anyway. In any event, you can get a built tranny that can handle what ever you can throw at it.

from what i've seen on the t-56, the one they put out for the camaro has a rating of between 500-550 lbs/ft. there is no posted limit on the hp. these transmissions are notorious for handling very high numbers on hp. with the couple things you said you were gonna put in (clutch etc.) i'd say you're gonna be totally fine.
