accelorator sticking

I have a 2000 Silverado Z71 5.3L. The gas pedal won't go down unless I stomp on it. This is an intermittent problem so it doesn't happen all the time. I saw a post here with the same subject but I can't find it. I remember the problem was fixed by spraying Gumout around the throttle linkage somewhere. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. :1zhelp:

Jimmiz is right... you need to clean out the carbon build up on your throttle body. Check out my thread. ~ Throttle Bodies

Yes, check to see if there is build up. However, I've talked to several mechanics and they all said that a 'sticky' throttle is a common problem on the new chevy's.

I had a sticking accelerator pedal and the dealer installed a new throttle bottle/or parts. That was a couple of months ago at around 30,000 miles.
There was a service bulliten issued concerning this........ don't know the number.

I think I've read somewhere since that GM has revised the service bulliten to: instead of replacement they recommend cleaning first to see if this alleviates the problem. If that doesn't work, then they consider replacement.

I'm going to do the throttle body by-pass.......... I'm thinking that maybe heating the throttle body causes quicker accumulation of residue. Maybe someone who has done this by-pass can comment on how many miles they've gone and if they have had any problems with a build-up.

I have done the bypass... there is no difference. I highly doubt that the sticking is because of a throttle defect. I also have a 2000 5.3, and had the same problem... 45 minutes later it was good as new. Your throttle just needs a good scrubbin'... i am 99.999999999% sure.

I shot some carb cleaner into the throttle body while manually modulating the butterfly valve and that did the trick. Works better than new!

I had the same problem with my 2000 4.8 V8. I just gave it a cleaning and it works great.

I cleaned out the throttle body and now the accelorator depresses with little effort. Big difference!! Only took me about 5 minutes. Thanks for the help everybody.

I had a sticking accelerator pedal and it was intermittently worse at times. I searched the threads for the cure, and found this thread. I sprayed carb cleaner into the butterfly area, and generally cleaned the area with a paper towel, using carb cleaner. A small puddle of carb cleaner pooled at the bottom of the butter fly valve, just after spraying. Now the throttle is as smooth as silk!! Thanks for the (even if it is a bit old) input to fix this anoying problem.
