Hi everyone,

My car overheated on a hot day, noted by the coolant actually boiling and spilling out over the release pipe. I took it in to get serviced and they replaced the radiatior, appartently the last one hda about 50% clogged material in it. No more overheating, even after a few long trips (without a/c on though). It wasn't till the other day when i took a short trip down the shops that I saw the temp guage rising again, I had the A/C on. I later took the car for a drive around to see if i could get to the problem. Basically, it will overheat to extreme when the a/c is on, but as soon as i turn it off, even if i keep driving with the temp way up, it will come down to normal fairly quickly. I'm really worried it's a gasget, but are there any other possibilites that should be explored?

Many thanks in advance,

Did they check your thermostat? With 50% of your rad. plugged you might have that much junk lodged in the thermo also. Hope you didn't get taken for a ride!!

ads,

In addition to gator3764's suggestion to have the thermostat checked, make sure both cooling fans turn on when you turn your A/C on. They should both come on automatically with the A/C on. If they don't, take it back to the tech who replaced the radiator and let him diagnose the fan problem.

Hi everyone,

Back again and in need of more advice! Basically a lot of time has passed without any problems. Hoever, it did start overheating again a couple of months ago, and that was fixed by replacing the radiator caps. Now, 2 mnths later, the bloody thing is overheating AGAIN! Whether A/C is on or not..

However, after a quick inspection i noted that the very top black plastic bit of the radiator (under and left of the main radiator cap) is leaking! So much so that all the reserve coolant has gone from the plastic container near the wiper fluid. So, basically, what do i do, can you just get this top bit of the radiator replaced? Would anything apart from normal wear and tear corrosion cause this?

Thanks for any help guys,

Good question, since they have gone with the plastic radiators.. I am not sure there is anything you can do except to replace the radiator. I think they have the plastic radiators now.. its too cold to go look this morning lol, in 96 on your model I assume it is probably plastic as well. I dont think there are adhesives strong enough to hold the pressure to fix the plastic and never never use any kind of radiator stop leak in any radiator! Can you take it back to where they replaced the radiator and have them warantee the work and give you a new radiator?

Take it back to the people who put the radiator in last March. It should still be under some kind of waranty.
