Yep, I saw it the other day, it's really sad to see the remains of a once busy town, but it also reminds us of the devastation nuclear power can reap.

That's just creepy. Sends chills down my spine. Something like that happening is absolutely frightening. It's just like... time stopped there or something. Weird.

Chernobyl's power plant WAS safe. The fact they decided to bypass as many safety procedures etc in an attempt to see how far they could go, whilst still running the generator, was not.
Is it just me or is this woman a bit thick?
"In theory radiation will stay in Chernobil area for the next 48.000 years, but in reality first people must start to populate those area already in some 300- 900 years." Great, lets go soak up some love!!!!
"I travel a lot and my favorite destination lead through so called Chernobyl "dead zone" It is 130kms from my home. Why favourite? because one can ride there for hours and not meet any single car and not to see any single soul" Ever wondered why??
Here's a hint: http://www.oriononline.org/pages/om/04-2om/Burwell.html

You guys think this engine will bolt onto my Dx tranny? What type of ECU should I use?
BMW is wasting all their money and time to come up with an engine that runs on hydrogen.
I'm so ahead of their time, my parents haven't met yet.
I'm gonna be the first person to have a civic with a hydrogen engine.

I was wondering about that too, it wouldn't surprise me, I heard that firefighters on the scene started having their skin fall right off, I'm sure alot of peole died trying to leave in their cars.

That's sad. I imagined myself being the guy who went fishing and could never return home, or maybe having family who worked in the plant. That's just scary. I bet the silence is truely unbearable, especially when you consider the noises of everyday life in the city. :frown:

:nono: Even though you're being funny, I don't think it's all that funny. I suppose it's because I have vested interest in firefighters, as my father was one. Firefighters answer the call no matter what circumstances, just look at this and 9/11. You have to respect that.

You know that is a good question... fortunately (I hope) None of us will probably never know the answer to. Those that witnessed this disaster will never speak again. Just like Carbon Monoxide, Radiation is the unseen bringer of death, the most exposed probably did not know what hit them, the lesser exposed probably died a horrible death of pain and illness, the fallout victims (who decided to stay) probably even worse...
Any loss of human life is tragic and severe, the fact that it was yet another humankind blunder just makes it all that more tough to handle even though you did not know any of them you can not help but feel sorry for the ppl of that town, the kids down the block having a game of hide and seek... they never had a chance.

there are verifiable reports of what the meltdown looked like. Sadly, those who saw enough to report on what it looked like only lived long enough to report. They say that the top of the reactor glowed bright and a shimmering cloud rose above it. It's amazing and terribly sad to think how many people died because of human blunders. Someone also drew off some of the coolant liquid from the reactor. The liquid glowed bright green and was fizzing uncontrollably. He said he could feel it vibrating in his hand. If he held it for a couple more minutes he would have died on the spot. It goes without saying that he ran the hell out of there.
