I bought this van new. The electrical system rivals that of a third world country. I feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette. The headlights flashed on and off on the Interstate and they replaced the BCM in November. Two weeks ago, my lights went out and I was in the 4th left lane of the Interstate. They flashed back on, then off. I made it to the right lane. It continued to go on and off. I rode 40 miles on the shoulder with my hazards on until a sheriff came and escorted me to my county line. The lights worked again and the servicemen couldn't find anything wrong with it. "Bring it back when it stays off" Yeah!
Here's a list of other problems I've had: 1) liftgate would work sporatically - eventually the liftgate latch was replaced; 2) driver's side window would freeze they replaced the front door regulator; 3)Engine light went on - replaced PCM, then the airbag light came on- replaced the air bag occuupant restraint control module; 4) engine light on - light switch terminal improperly crimped; 5) Sliding doors wouldn't unlock from inside; 6) Right sliding door occasionally will not work with remote;7) driver's side will not lock from the inside or from the remote unless the following ritual is done Open, Open, Lock Any ideas what to do?

I have the same problem with my 2002 Grand Caravan Sport. The dealer told me the same thing. The instrument panel lights stopped working to. The connect it to the diag and surprise they start working. The told me to bring it back when they stay off. I thing it is a computer problem and they just don't want to fix it.

My lights went off again an then replaced a switch. And guess what? It flickered again. I wrote a letter to the pres of Chrysler and sent a copy to Florida. A trouble shooter out of Orlando Floirda, is checking out the van, as I type. Barbara

I am having the same problems w/ my headlights on my 2001 caravan SE shutting off for a few seconds, for no reason, then coming back on. Were you ever given an explanation or were they ever fixed? I don't feel comfortable w/ my wife driving the car at night and the dealer has told us, on two occaisions, that they can't find anything wrong.

Isn't it nice nowadays they feel they have to run everything thru a computer instead of keeping it simple , power to a switch then to the headlights . Now they run they run it thru a computer so that they flicker when you unlock the door or they stay on for few minutes after you shut off the car . I'll take simplicity and reliabilty anyday .

Several of you have contacted me having the same problem of the lights flickering off and then returning. In essence I wrote to the head of Chrysler and gave him all the information. He sent a troubleshooter from Florida, who spent some time with the van. Three computers were replaced (one of which was replaced before) and a belt. All at no charge to me, but they never really isolated the problem. They really couldn't guarantee that it would not happen again. I think it is electrical not a computer glitch. I felt like I was playing russian roulette and traded the van in. If any of you want a copy of the letter I sent to the chrylser president and the mechanical follow up, email me and I'll forward it to you. I'll include my vin number so they can track down a specific assembly plant or time frame.

My headlights do the same on my 2001 Grand Caravan SE and Im tired of taking it to the repair shop just to hear them say, sorry we could not find the problem but that will be $50-$100 for checking the vehicle out. Bring it back when the headlights stay off. If anybody finds out whats causing this or if you need vehicle info then just email me. Thanks Ron

I sent a letter to Dieter Zetsche of the Daimler Chrysler Corp in Auburn Hills, MI. He had a trouble shooter from Florida come up. The trouble shooter had the technicians replace: the body control module (this was replaced earlier), the front control module, the power distribution center/intelligent power module, and the ground strap. They never did find the reason for the short. This was all no charge. I asked the technicians how they felt about it and if they would put their family in this van. Each one hedged - well, we really can't guarantee it. I had no confidence in the van, and was afraid to drive it at night. They gave me a good trade-in value and the money back incentives were good, so I got a 2005 Grand Caravan. For all I know, the van may be working like a charm. I'm posting the vin number on this site so if it is not fixed, the new owner would have a history. the vin # 2B8GP74L41R291225

with as many problems as you are seeing, I'd bet you have a grounding issue somewhere. Perhaps the battery? Internally? loose intermittant connection to a module? WOW...tough one! I guess I'd start at the power source. The battery. Disconnect and clean connections. Replace with another battery(from another vehicle or a loaner..hate to buy one if it's not the problem) and try it . From there I would check harnesses and grounds for all the modules. Let us know how you make out.

My 2001 started doing the same thing. Ever since I got it in Nov 2001 I would notice the headlights flicker at a stop sign when I hit the brakes. Thought I was seeing things. It was a fast flicker. Last year the headlights started going off/on... I traded it in on a 2005.. no more problem... So Far. :)
